Hi Everyone!
What do you think are the most successful types of products to sell through home parties? Do certain products tend to have higher sales? I went to a jewelry party and it seemed like a real easy sell.
Thanks for your opinions.

In my opinion I think that you need to go with something that you are passionate about.Any products that you may be interested in selling should be a consumable product that will generate reorders on a regular basis. There are lots of direct sales companies out there, you should go with a company that has a product that you are not only passionate about, but there is a need for.I hope that made sense to you.smileys/smiley1.gifThe jewlrey biz is cool,I have never been to a party though. You should speak to the rep from that company and check out the basics such as sales requirements, comp plan, startup costs etc.Just my opinion,I am sure you will get some advice from those that are actually in the jewlrey biz!Good luck!

I agree. Pick something you like...and it is an easy sell.
Sure, there are certain party plan companies withlower party averages, simply because their products are less expensive. But the comp plan might be set up to reward them more.
If you ike jewelry, you should find out more info about the company and go from there! Ask your friends if they'd have a show if you became a consultant.
I think your enthusiasm for the product line makes the biggest difference. I hear from customers all the time that they "Had a great Time." When they enjoy the party, they tend to purchase more.

Love your product and your enthusiasm will be infectious. I don't think there's a right answer to your question. Everyone feels differently about what makes a great company. I think it depends on you, your personality, your interests, and your long-term goals. My company is an excellent match for my personality, but it wouldn't be for everyone. In the same vein, there are companies other people swear by that I would be miserable dealing with because the products bore me, or I think they're overpriced, or whatever.

Well, I'm gonna have to be honest with you. I sell jewelry. Why am I selling jewelry? I wasn't even looking for another company to join when I joined Latasia. But, the Lord dropped it in my lap and I trusted Him. Now, I have never been "into" jewelry, have never even THOUGHT about selling it. I felt a good feeling about it when I was told about Latasia, I prayed about it for about a week and just felt at peace when I thought about it so I went for it. And boy am I glad!!!
The Lord has blessed me with over $8000 in sales since Feb. 26. That's alot of sales in less than 3 months. And very good money.
You do have to like what you sell. I liked jewelry but I wasn't a jewelry fanatic or necessarily have passion about it. But for me it was a trust thing. I knew the Lord wanted me doing it so I did it. Am I passionate about jewelry now? YOU BET I AM!! LOL But more than anything, I'm passionate about letting people know to follow their hearts and instincts. My instincts are from the Lord so that's what I follow. I know from experience that He will take you, put you where He wants you and when you step out there on Faith and trust in Him, He WILL Bless you with your business, no matter what type it is. It can be something you'd think nobody would ever buy, but if you feel He's leading you to sell it, go for it and watch what happens! He'll use you and your success through Him to touch and bless other people's lives!
Sorry, didn't mean to get so deep there. YES, JEWELRY IS AN EASY SELL!!! But for me it's easy because it's what God wanted me doing!!

I believe that no matter what the product that you are selling you must be passionate about it. When people see your enthusiasm they tend to relax and take a closer look at your product. I personally prefer a consumable type of product.
I tried jewelry in the past, but it was not my passion. I only saw the earnings potential and did not look at the whole picture.
I am now sell Gourmet Foods and I have found my passion. Who would have thought that a person that hates the kitchen could love doing interactive cooking shows!!!smileys/smiley36.gif
Good luck with whatever direction that you decide.

I agree with what everyone has been saying. You have to find your passion and selling that will be easy.
I sell jewelry too...beads. The product sells itself! I love jewelry, its my background and I found I enjoyed selling a product that my customers can custom design to reflect their own personalities.
Now if I had to sell kitchen or food products I don't know how well I would do....I hate to cook! LOL! smileys/smiley36.gif
Best of luck!

There is a combo of things.
First you need to love what you sell. Second, you need to test your market. What goes well in one place will be a dude in another.
On the otherhand, I've watched people in a certain market fail over and over again, and then this one person came along and she made it work. Why? She knew how to find people's needs and show them how it would benefit them. She got them hooked.
So it's a combo of your personality, your area, and your product.
For me, it's toys. But everywhere I go people have kids, I can network, they all know what I do and I often make sales when I head out the door by having a catalog with me.
So first look within yourself. What do you love?

I think that while yes you have to love what you sell it also helps to sell a unique product. Something with value that the customer can’t get at Wal-Mart. I sell romance/adult products and it’s great because of its uniqueness, and I have a blast with the parties.

You've gotten wonderful advise and I really don't have much to add.
I agree that YOU have to LOVE it! Is the product or service something you can be excited about and use it today and for years to come?
Your knowledge and experience with the product/service first hand plays a large part in your success and your confidence!
Poke around the site, request some info on different biz's. Order some products or request some samples.
I also agree to test the market. Show folks a catalog or ask them about the biz's you've been looking at. What's the reaction you are getting?
Good luck in your search! smileys/smiley1.gif

Great advice already! I do know that jewelry is a good sell and also depends upon the individual. Some wear it - some don't - just like skincare. You might even get repeat customers when new products are introduced. You have to be excited about you sell. Good Luck!

I too agree with what everyone is saying. I think if you really enjoy what you are selling, it will appear easy to sell. I joined a company once because it was very successful, and not because I liked the product... my sales were HORRIBLE! I'm sure that it showed to everyone that I didn't enjoy the product, even though the product was VERY successful for others. I obviously changed companies and am doing very well now. smileys/smiley1.gif Again, if you LOVE the product, it will show in your presentation and people will LOVE it too. Good luck in your search!

I agree with the fact that you have to find something you are
passionate about! It really all comes down to how much time and
energy you want to give to your business. If you are excited and
passionate about it, I believe you can make any business work!
There are consultants in my area that have lower party averages and who
book fewer parties than I do, but I don't think that their hearts are
really in their business(like mine is)! Good luck on finding a
business that you are truly passionate about!

I also agree as I have been in many different direct sales throughout the past 20 years from jewelry, make-up, amway, skin care and have made some money but not what I was hoping. Also, I didnt have the passion for what I was doing so to me it was a chore.
Now I have been selling gourmet foods and tableware and my sales are INCREDIBLE. I finally found my passion and it shows. How do I know? The money is always there, customers call me to book a show, and REPEAT orders. Thats always a plus.
Find what you love and be passionate. Give it 110% and you WILL reap the rewards.
Good Luck!

I sell Jewelry too. When I first started with lia sophia I was not looking for a company to join. However, whenI started looking at the product and the company, I was hooked. Now mind you I am not a big jewelry person. I am a very conservative house wife, that quite honestly most fashion jewelry just looks dumb on. Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and give it a try. It just really felt like the thing to do. I have never regretted that decision. I have found that I am passionate about the jewelry and the business. The way I run my business suits my personality very well. I get very wound up whenever I start talking about the jewelry or the business. My energy and emthusiams translates well to others, and gets them excited too. I have also have several repeat customers, so I don't think you have to have a consumable product to keep good sales. It sounds like Krystal and I have a lot in common. lol
Personally, I think you just have to enjoy what you do, and be excited about both the comapny and the product to be successfull!
Best of luck looking.

As others have said find a product you love and go with that company. It is always easier to sell others on an idea if you have sold yourself on it. When I saw our catalog I made a list of things I would buy for myself, then I saw it was getting way to o long! That is when I knew I should sign up.

I really love Jewelry Direct Sales companies! I have been with Premier Designs for over 3 years. Our average earnings per show are over $200 net profit!!!!
There is no presentation. We do not have to tell women why they need it or how to use it. I simply lend "fashion advice" and set up a display table. We do not have to "sell" our product.
Most jewelry companies offer incredibly high Hostess Benefits as well, which helps you to fill your calendar.
I just simply ask women: "Who would like to earn about $200 in free jewelry in the next month or two?" Pretty easy
PM me if you would like more info about Premier

You will book parties no matter what company you are with if you are passionate about it and motivate yourself to promote it. People will only know about your business if you share it with them. Every person you don't share with is lost potential of a new customer.

I have been with two direct sales companies. I went from selling home decor for three years to adult novelties. (big jump I know! everyone laughs)
Sell what ever you are comfortable. Seach to find a company that fits your needs. Love the product and believe in your company and you WILL be successful!
There are so many options out there. I love direct sales. I have made many great friendships through my parties and with other reps. Good luck!

Besides all that has been mentioned here already... think about repeat sales. I was looking for something consumable when I was considering a DS biz and now that I have a big customer base, I can rely on repeat sales like clockwork.
Just a thought.

Pick a product that you will use yourself. If you don't wear make up, it wouldn't be a good idea to sell for a company such as Mary Kay, Jafra or Beauticontrol. I know they sell other items like skin care, but you'll want to be able to "sell" your product by your face.
If you don't have kids, you might not want to pick a company such as Discovery Toys, Big Yellow Box or Usborne Books. They are geared more towards kids.
Choose a company that you will use. If you wear jewelry, then picking a a jewelry company might be a good idea. Make sure you pick a company that sells the type of jewelry you'd wear. Even in between all the different jewelry companies there are a variety of styles to choose from. I'm not a big sterling silver person so I personally would shy away from those types of jewelry companies - yet I love fashionable, fun jewelry like Cookie Lee sells.
For me personally, I feel in love with Maddy Moo. I love handbags and love having people approach me to ask me where I got my handbag. smileys/smiley17.gif

Everyone has given the best common piece of advice, and that is to sell what you are passionate about...yet you do have to sell something that is desired by customers, there has to be a balance.
I tried many different companies over the years, make up, home decor, travel, etc....and when I started in my current biz (see the fantasy link) I was amazed at how it took off! I love it and have done better with it than anything else i've tried.
So look at all aspects of the biz, is it something you want to sell? Is it something you know your local area would be interested in? does the company 'fit' with me?
Good luck in your search!!

I honestly have to say, being in a few companies, that so far I have seen that Adult Products and Romance items are the easiest sell. I was with a home decor company and another personalized gift company and Adult Novelties have been proven to me hands down the biggest seller! smileys/smiley2.gif
Passion is a must in anything. I LOVED my first company and left for many different reasons, but even with my love for those products, Romance all the way, is the top seller for me.
Good Luck in your ventures

I am with BeautiControl and you don't have to sell makeup to sell your face! We have a lot of consultants who do not wear makeupbut are very successful selling skin care, maintenance and repair products. So don't let that stop you if you are passionate about a skin care, image and spa company!
But Tamra is correct that you should pick a company that you feel passionate about.
I hope you find the perfect fit for you!

I agree with all the Romance divas here. You will be blown away with the response to selling romance enhancement novelties. It all about helping people with their relationships. Women are very excited about this and love booking parties. We are offering something unique and they cannot get it at wal-mart! I am having such an easy time with booking. Its just too easy!
It is tastefully done and entirely about educating women. There is big money in this but most of all it is fun! And I feel really great know that I play a part in helping relationships grow stronger.
I just had a lady the other day tell me that her male "friend" is now her "boyfriend". She said she thinks it is due to a phermone cologne that we carry in our line of products. In any case she is quite pleased that they have taken there friendship to a new level.
Its all about helping people. I love what I do!
