Terrysohs,

There are many positions listed in this section of the forum and new ones are posted every day. Many would pay by the hour.

I'd really reccomend taking some time to search through this section of the forum, and apply for things that you are qualified to do.

I know but I wanted to hear from people that actually work at a company because alot of the ads sound good but may not be as good as they sound.

When a job is posted, it may be GREAT for one person and suck donkey toes for another. Nobody here can say oh this is the perfect job for YOU. Every job in the B&M world and virtual has its pros and cons. You should be on the lookout for jobs that pay via one of the normal payment methods (paypal, check,dd) not normal would be western union or the like. Jobs that have a fair contract and explain the job the way you understand it during the interview/hiring process. Companies that have their own website/domain thats not riddled with grammatical errors, when speaking with the owner/recruiter/manager do they know the industry they are in? Do they go into depth about personal issues? Building rapport is one thing but when they start telling you about things they need to see a professional for its a huge red flag!

Someone always HAS to be the "guinea pig" and just because a company pays, and even on time doesnt mean its the right job for YOU. Things happen to all of us that leave a bad taste in our mouths even if the company isnt a "scam", you just have to apply, interview and go with your gut..in my experience your gut will never lead you wrong.

ETA: just as an example, I did affiliate marketing for 5 yrs. Have a friend that we have worked for the same companies, she took on a new company and I followed suit on her reccomendation..for me it sucked I made absolutely no money and it was a complete waste of my time..she makes between 2 and 4k a month, they pay weekly but she never gets paid on the same day it could be monday or friday..I would flip out waiting around like that..for her it works shes happy. For me it would literally make my head explode!

I feel the need to chime in here. First and foremost, the best and only way for you to learn and know of the best companies that pay by the hour are to do your OWN research and NOT have someone else do it for you. This will actually allow you to become more familiar with a company and how they operate and what they are seeking for in a potential WAH employee, etc.

The reason for my saying this is because what works for one person, may NOT work for another. Not to mention that most of us that work from home have spent countless hours upon hours doing our OWN research in order to find the particular work from home positions that we have that pay hourly.

Another reason why it is best for you to do your OWN research is so that you can get familiar with what is a SCAM and what is not. This will become very valuable to you as time goes on when searching for WAH employment. I cannot stress enough just how valuable this will become for you, as you will then learn how to spot a SCAM in a New York minute and won't even be bothered with or having to ask anyone else whether or not you think it is legitimate position, because you will already know this information from having to perform your own due diligence research.

The only other advice I can give you is if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Not to mention that you will need to be careful when using Craigslist, although I find many legitimate positions via Craigslist, but then again, I have been working from home for 20 years and I know how to spot the SCAMS from the real legitimate employment opportunities. Craigslist does have many legitimate positions. I have found the two jobs that I currently have through Craigslist, as well as many other positions that I have held in the past.

I'm not trying to come across as being harsh and I'm sorry if some of you may feel that way, but it is the TRUTH.

Good Luck in your endeavor for WAH employment. :)

Maybe my comment was to vague, what I was looking for was for someone that could say "I work for West, they pay by the hour and on time" or I work for convergys then I would look at those companies and see if I was interested. But thanks you guys! :):):)

There are already people here who have done exactly this. The best way to find what you are looking for is to do a search using the keyword Convergys at the top of the forum where the search feature is located and you will more than likely find what you are looking for and be able to find someone that has already worked for them or that is currently working for them that is able to give you feedback. You can pretty much do this for any company. :)

You have to do your own research. Most of the things you want to know have been asked and answered probably a dozen times. If you type your question in the search box all the threads in that topic will pop up.

There are loads of jobs talked about on this board and experiences. Have you tried the search function on this board? There is also another board called Work Place Like Home. Your asking people to help pick out a job for you basically and wanting people to post reviews of their jobs in this thread instead of looking around the board yourself. Stop being lazy and do your own research.

I think part of it is that people come to this board out of work and stressed out because of it. Many are having a hard time finding traditional employment and this is their first time looking for a work at home position. And they don't know where to start. And are hesitant to apply for things because they are worried about scams.

WAHM is also a really big forum and I imagine for a new comer, they may not know where or how to start looking here either.

It may not be laziness, but a feeling of being overwhelmed.

I wasn't asking anyone to research anything. I am far from lazy. It's sad to get such negative comment and name calling from someone on a forum where people help eachother.

Don't worry about the negative ones. It is life and it's all out there. For every single person that is offended by your post there are 10 others out there who don't mind but just don't want to get involved. I am sorry you got beat up this time - just raise yourself up and keep plugging along. ;)

Maybe you can let us know your skills or what kind of jobs you are looking for. Your first post was too broad. Nobody knows anything about you to adequately help you out. I think your best bet is to keep looking in the telecommute folder and see if any of those leads interest you. Good luck to you!

I'm sorry you feel that me telling you that your lazy and to do your own research was negative, but it's the best advice you will get. Others before me, tried to tell you this in a nicer way. I offered the same advice without sugar coating it. A job that is good for me, you may not like. Look at the boards and search around, Than ask if you feel something has not been answered or that you need clarification. The way you sounded in your post was Hey everyone! I'm too lazy to do my own research or bother to read the board, so let me start my own thread and hope that everyone will tell me what I want to know...

Sorry, but many people have been looking for a long time for work, doing research, looking at work a home boards and blogs applying, getting information, applying and getting jobs trial and error before finding a good job.

Did you use the search box and look for hourly jobs or phone jobs or things that your looking for? Did you google and look for information on possible companies you might be interested in? Nope. Your post basically asked for everyone to spoon feed you.

Go head and pat the original poster on the back if you like, There there poor girl Dont let athomemama get you down.. here.. We will hand you all the info and you don't have to do squat by yourself..... if you wish, but I am sure many people beleive me here.

I'm not negative. Just trying to get you to do some things on your own, use independent thinking about jobs that YOU want.

Yes poor baby she is  It will all be okay. Why don't you use the search functions and look up all the hourly jobs for her?

I wasn't trying to be negative either, but I was trying to be honest and real.

Think about this: How do you think an employer and/or recruiter is going to interpret your post? If you aren't willing to do the leg work (your own research), then do they really think that you are going to be able to do their work, especially if it is a research position? You might want to think about this. Just a thought. ;)

Also, as another poster pointed out, your post was too broad and nobody knows what your skills are at all. Only you know that and know what is going to be the best job for you.

Again, I'm sorry if I come across as harsh, but as a job recruiter, I see this every single day and then people wonder why they won't or don't get hired.

BTW, I am always and usually helpful on this board. :)

I have been working from home for over 10 years . Another thing to keep in mind is that companies come and go all the time. I have worked for several good legit companies in the past, but sadly they have went out of business. I know there is a list of companies in the sticky at the top of this board. Have you looked those over ? I know the rate of pay isnt listed ..but all the companies are legit and do pay on time. If you have any more specific questions..please ask..you can feel free to pm me if you would like.. I am happy to help you -)

In the original poster's defense, sometimes the search function sucks!!! Sorry, but I've been on this forum for years and sometimes the answers you are specifically looking for are not there. They can be poorly outdated sometimes too! Yes, the stickies are there to help everyone and we should use them, but sometimes its nice to hear other people's testimonies about their experiences. I think it is common sense that all jobs are not for everyone, but its still nice to hear what others think. After all this is a forum, a place to share our experiences, gain knowledge, and most importantly uplift each other.

I am one of those people that doesn't mind giving you a helping hand. Just remember what goes around comes around. If you share, your blessings will come back to you three-times fold.

I also feel that many new people come to this board, and it does becomes overwhelming for them. That being said, I believe the original poster was simply looking for more of an "at a glance" type of view. A comparison of jobs if you will. I don't think it is lazy to come to this board looking for immediate answers. I believe that is why we contribute to the board, so that people can come here and find answers. It's okay to let others ride your coat tail.....how many coat tails have you ridden?????

TO ORIGINAL POSTER.......I would check www.ratracerebellions comparison chart if you want a quick view of some of the same jobs listed on this site. I thought it was pretty neat how they offered that. It may include some of the information you are looking for. here is the link - Work at Home Jobs: Free Legitimate Work From Home Job Opportunities (http://www.ratracerebellion.com/CS_Comparison.html)

God bless, and happy hunting.

Terrysohs --

I'm sorry that you've gotten such undeserved, negative, grinch-like responses. Really -- isn't this why people come to the forum? To get help and advice? This IS research, lol;) It's very sad that some (not all) people are so quick to be rude and nasty when someone is asking for help. I'm embarassed to see that some of the responses have been very selfish and ungracious. As another poster said, "How many coat tails have you ridden?" Finding a legitimate work-at-home job is hard enough. They should be grateful enough for all of the help that we all who work at home have undoubtedly received and should really lighten up. But, what goes around comes around...maybe they should keep that in mind.

Anyway, I don't mind sharing some resources/jobs that have really helped me. I currently work as an English language tutor for Talkool (Innodial Communications), which pays hourly. I have had a tremendous experience with this company. I also work for Perception Strategies (perstrat.com) as a medical telephone mystery shopper. It's not hourly, however it offers an awesome side income and is very flexible (you work when you want). I've found that when working from home it's always better to have a couple of eggs and not to just rely on one.

Feel free to email/PM me if I can be of help or answer any questions. I'm happy to do it!:)

Hi all,

so disheartening to hear some of the replies. I understand both sides. I am new to WAHM - and have spent MANY hours on this site and others searching for opportunities and you all know how challenging it can be especially with the learning curve of just starting out. I have looked and researched and I still haven't found that missing key and perhaps the OP is in that same position and just wanted someone to point them in the right direction. As one poster already said - isn't that the what forums are for? how do we know someone is lazy just because they ask a question? for those of you who have been on this site for a while it can be kind of irritating considering you have probably answered questions like these before and the site is full of answers - just providing a link back to those conversations is helpful and if you don't feel like being helpful - why not ignore the post? I'm really thankful to this site and to alot of you guys and gals out there who are immensely helpful day after day.

I don't think I'm nasty or a grinch for expecting grown adults to read through the board just like the rest of us to do to find information instead of them expecting us to spoon feed them a job because they are ARE too lazy to look for themselves. There are plenty of experiences with jobs on the threads here and the Work Place like Home Board.

Do you do every thing for your children and not teach them to do for themselves? If I did that, I'd have one super lazy teenager who wouldnt even know how to wash a dish or write her name. Just an example which I am sure will be torn into me being the big bad meanie. Lol

Read, Read Read the board.

Nobody said it is lazy to ask a question. To insinuate that that I was saying that is completely stupid. It is the questions asked.. "Post your experiences" Well DUHH Look around? Plenty of answers to be had without starting a thread about it.

Make a list of companies you might be interested in. Research them on the boards about the pay and others experiences and google them, Narrow down the list and decide which to apply for instead of the "Give me" attitude.

Anyways, I'm done defending the fact that people should read the boards instead of expecting others coddling them and having to see the same info repeated over and over that was already posted in different threads.

Good luck to the OP. Your I think you should ask questions.. If you see that yours was not answered fifty times over already in the boards.

lsf
12-12-2011, 02:09 PM
No one said that she shouldn't do her own research. It's common sense to expect that she would. I think that she was looking for possible good leads to BEGIN with, which is understandable given the amount of scams out there and especially being a newbie. And also, what's better than first-hand accounts of people who have actually worked there? A job description is one thing, experience is another. Even then, I ALWAYS go back and continue to find out what I can about the company.

No -- I don't do everything for my child. But what's wrong with a helping hand every now and again? That's definitely a character trait worth teaching.

Anyway, even if you disagree with the OP, it's not necessarily the response that you gave that's the issue. It's the disrespectful way that it was communicated.

GodsLittleGirl

You are correct Shreri35....those who are upset by the repetative questions should show restraint, and simply ignore the post. It would save people a lot of unnecessary insult on this board. This is not a place for "stress". but a place for "progress". It would be well appreciated if this was kept in mind.

Bless you all...and this is my last post on this subject. It has already gained way more attention than it deserves.

I have been a member here a looong time, and all the info still is to much for me to take in!

OP honestly the best advice I can give you is to apply, if you get in interview come back and search for the name of the company more often than not you will see several threads with good/bad/ugly reviews. If the company pays and on time go for it! Experience is subjective to ones own opinions so its always best to check it out for yourself. I have seen companies get slammed here because the owners/managers were less than desirable but they always paid like clockwork, I have seen people jump on things they hate doing out of desperation for ANYTHING and come back complaining the job sucked blah blah. On the other hand I have seen folks defend the crappiest companies to the ends of the earth and in the end not get paid what they are owed, or at all..as I said earlier everyone has to be a guinea pig.

Another poster said the best thing is multiple eggs, I agree..to many times a job you thought was stable ends and the last thing you want is to be back at square 1.

I cant give you any great companies because great for me, is probably not great for you...but I do wish you the best of luck!

You're welcome. Also Lionbridge, Butler Hill and Leapforce at home are hourly and non phone related. They are hourly. You will have to do a google search and type hourly pay after their names to get it because they don't like anyone to say their hourly here but plenty will say it online. I didn't mention it because I have actually worked for two of them and they make you sign a clause about it. But if you can get in and like it, they pay pretty good for a work at home job. Their folder is under google rater in this forum.

This site is so overwhelming. I don't see why its so hard to reach out a helping hand to someone. I have worked at home on the phones for almost 4 years now. I work for centurylink now. I would like to look for something to do on the side. Seeing responses like this make me hesitate to even ask for help or suggestions. I am very capable of looking through everything but there is so much.
To anyone that lives in the centurylink area, I would be happy to get you the link for centurylink if they are hiring. Some people are struggling to make ends meet and it seems to me if you have the capability to help someone you should. I work a full time job, go to school full time and am raising three kids on my own. I am not lazy I struggle with finding time to go through everything.
I am kinda shocked and at the same time this kind of thing makes me sad to see. People are so hateful anymore. I live in a small town where everyone is willing to lend a helping hand. Thats seems to be a thing of the past.
