There was a feature piece in our local news Monday night about an @rbonne rep forwarding emails about lead content in lipsticks. It was in our local market which is a HUGE @rbonne market. They had an MK rep talking about how they never bad mouth another company's product.

Has anyone heard of this? http://www.kfor.com/Global/category.asp?C=67438See video entitled: Pretty Little Lie

Well, that article is pretty embarrasing, I think. I hope that whoever is sending that e-mail stops asap! I agree that we should not use scare tactics to sell, we should sell them on what is so good about A***. I hope this does not have real adverse effects. thanks for sharing the info.smileys/smiley2.gif

Yes, I received that email. For fun, me and my friend took out her MK lipstick, Mac lipstick, revlon lipstick and my arbonne and did the test with our ring. Guess what? ARbonnes turned black. There are many ingredients in lipstick that react to different metals. That is why you should never pass on scare tactics of any kind.

So, is there lead, or not. The researchers found lead, but arbonne says we have no lead. That doesn't look very good...

Thanks, Cassandra. So the story is going around, but someone in Oklahoma gave it an @rbonne vs. MK twist. How petty!

I always check Snopes.com (http://www.snopes.com/medical/toxins/lipstick.asp)when any kind of email comes in my box, and I'd say 95% of the time it's false, an urban legend.

You ever hear that saying, "enthusiasm on fire is greater than knowledge on ice"? I have never agreed with that and this mess is an example why. Edited by: cassandra

barbara, I think Arbonne said the same thing as the others, that lead is not an ingredient used in manufacturing the lipsticks. The others also gave an explanation why there may be traces of lead in the lipstick, but Arbonne and Shishedio didnt' go that far.

It's true, lead is in everything due to the environment, but it makes Arbonne look like they are in denial by saying "There is NO lead"

I have seen that email for years, long before I ever heard of Arbonne. I knew it was phony a long time ago.

I think people should have to get a lesson in SNOPES before they are allowed to take a computer home from a store!smileys/smiley36.gif

I think the real problem as I see it is not that there may or may not be trace
amounts of lead in lipstick, but that a consultant would take that
information and use it as a "marketing tool" to promote their brand. And
then suggest others do so as well.

It'll fade eventually, and this kind of shenanigans is bound to happen now
and then with so many consultants striving for business.

You know - I signed on to Arbonne for personal use. And I sell MK and a link was forwarded to me from some MK people. And I have to say, that it was a pretty poor piece of journalism. I felt that it was created with a slant towards MK. It was just fishy to me that they did not interview any other cosmetics reps. I always thought news pieces were supposed to offer all sides of the story and let the reader make their own decision. I was not impressed with that story at all.

Just my 2 cents

I live in OK too but am in Jenks. I had heard about this piece though. First, I hate that some reps have used it as scare tactics & caused embarrassment to the company. I remember seeing this email a long time ago but was quick to check it out on snopes. I am not comfortable with using things like that even if it was true considering that home office specifically asked us not to do things like that.

Second, I find it funny that this MK rep would "never bash a company" yet she'sbashing uson the news! It's my guess that she was ticked about the email & saw an opportunity to stick it to our company by taking it to the news. (which is why she was the one featured) Then she couldpoint out how ethical she & her company are. It's very passive aggressive of the MK rep.I highly doubt that channel 4 came up with that on their own after seeing the email.

I had the same take as Michelle did, that it seemed like biased journalism. Funny part about that bias though, the wife of one of the anchors is an RVP within my same group. Odd, huh?
