OH MY!!! Well, early this morning, I was startled awake by the smell of something burning/melting. I jumped out of bed and ran into the kitchen!

There was my 4 year old trying to make toast. She was doing a great job and I couldn't figure out where the smoke/smell was coming from. No, I don't encourage her to make toast on her own. I explained to her that she is to wait for mommy or daddy to work the toaster for her. LOL

Well, turns out that my hubby decided to make the girls some toast and leave it out on the counter for them so they wouldn't come in and ask me right away for breakfast. He left them the toast and a sausage patty on each plastic plate. Yes, you are starting to get the idea.

Well, my husband's plan would have worked, but he underestimated my little ones. LOL Turns out that they can eat cold sausage pattys but cold toast is unacceptabe. So they decided to try the microwave.

YEP, she got the dang thing started and pretty much melted the toast to the plate and the plate to the glass tray inside. The plates are now off the glass tray, in an air-tight bag and in the trash and the tray is now soaking in my sink.....BUT.....

I have had the house wide open for the last 4 hours and have sprayed both Febreeze and another spray called "Zero Odor" that has worked alright on all other smells. But this one is still lingering.

Any suggestions ladies?!?!?! LOL I would love the smell to be gone before my party on Thursday. LOL

Thanks
Brenda P.

I use real essential oils like lavendar, grapefruit, rosemary, etc.I have a little electric diffuser that I put drops in and turn on and in a very short time the oils "clean" the air. They get rid of smells, bacteria, etc from the air and usually calm down my kids and de-stress me to! smileys/smiley36.gif

You can put 10 drops or so of an essential oil in a small spray bottle with some water and spritz it around- lavendar is a great all purpose one to use.

So, this is what I do....maybe others will have more suggestions!

Good luck :0) Carrie

You can try Oust which is designed for odors in the air (as opposed to Febreeze which is designed for odors in fabrics). I hate the smell, but it works ok. BabyCrazy actually carries a great odor-free product called Sunzyme, which removes odors in the air and on fabrics, but you wouldn't receive it by Thursday.

I agree about a natural odor neutralizer. Spray the febreeze on your furniture to remove any soaked in odors, and then add some essential oils (or some cinnamon!) to a pot of water and boil it. Just make sure you don't boil off all of the water. We used cinnamon and an orange peel when we had a skunk smell throughout the house (before I discovered Sunzyme!). It helped!

I hope you have the windows open wide. Burning plastic is toxic and you don't want to breathe that in for a long time if you can help it.

Good luck...
Christy

It might be too late for your party...but put out little bowls of regular vinegar. Vinegar absorbs smells...works when I forget I have the chicken dinos under the broiler!
