I just joined LinkedIn and have started by connecting with fellow-alums who are in business. Other than making connections, how do you use LinkedIn? How do you communicate? I have an online gift basket store and am trying to reach people who may have volume needs like corporate heads or business owners (and many others, I'm sure).
A few basic tips from those who are active there would be great! Thanks!

I use linkedin.com to post upcoming company webinars or exciting news pertaining to my company. I don't "advertise" per se, however, when you make connections - and maintain relationships - you may "create" prospects. I have.
Please, please, don't make your first contact with a new connection be an ad for your business - or a link to your website. When I receive those, I immediately delete them.
