I really want to start a home based party business....and I love candles/warmers/etc...

But I'm really confused as to which one to go with.....

I've narrowed it down to 4 :eek:.....lol

Keep in mind that I live in the middle of Michigan.....Kind of in the middle of nowhere....but am willing to market as much as I can.....I also have a wide base of internet acquaintances, so that is always something to consider....

Here are the 4 that I am most interested in.....

#1: Eclipse Candle Co.
~Newer company, no one around me that sells it....maybe even in the state, exciting to get in now......and it's a Christian owned company (big plus for me). And no monthly quota kind of rocks....because some months might be more busy for me.

#2: Scentsy
~Love love love scentsy....have several warmers and have had several parties.....(just closed on one today actually). My biggest concern is that my friend who sells it....well, we have a lot of the same friends in common.....I'd feel like I was intruding sort of....and also, it seems to be pretty heavily saturated here. Is there really room to 'grow'?

#3: Gold Canyon
~I really like GC candles and even the warmers look nice (although I probably won't buy one because I'd feel like I was cheating on my Scentsy ones....lol) Seriously though, one of the big drawbacks for me is 3 people sell it at my work.....and while my workplace is fairly large....it's still pretty much a territorial issue.

#4: Mia Bella
~I know nothing about this company, really.....other than it claims to have candles that don't tunnel and smell good.

I'm not interested in Partylite or any other type....just the 4.

Based on what you wrote I think you should narrow it down to Scentsy and Eclispe. With Scentsy you said you have already had parties and if you went with Gold Canyon you felt like you would be cheating on Scentsy lol.

You should definitely take your time and pick a company that has products you would really enjoy selling and has a great compensation plan that would work for you. So if you are unsure about quotas maybe you should consider going with a company that doesn't have quotas (Eclispe or Mia Bella).

There are many great companies out there! I LOVE Gold Canyon, and their Scent Pod Warmers are wonderful and are a great seller! But GC offers so much more than that! We Just keep in mind too, you are not limited to your workplace! :)

Just reading over your comments, it sounds like you have narrowed it down to Eclipse and Scentsy. My honest opinion is if you want to start a home based business. I would go with Eclipse Candle Company we are brand new, and the market is not flooded with rep which is a major advantage in the industry. In order to be successful with any company, you have got to love and be excited about the products yourself.

As far as having others that sell in your area...think of it this way, how many McDonalds are in your town? There are definitely far more than one in mine, and they all do well.

When I was looking into candles, I had a list of things that were important to me and narrowed it down that way. (commissions, eco-friendly, monthly quotas, etc) That would be my suggestion to you, make a list of all the things you want from a company and go from there.

Looks like you have been doing your homework, that is GREAT. You have also chosen 4 wonderful companies.

I know how you feel about being concerned about the fact that your friend yourself travel in the same circles. I felt that way too. My sponsor is a close relative, we go to the same church and our kids went to the same preschool. But what I found is that the world is BIG and so are the opportunities! Think about FRANK (friends, relatives, acquaintances, neighbors, kids) Surely you don't share a fence line with your friend (and I'm assuming potential sponsor) There's a TON of business in your own back yard! Your kids teachers, friends parents coaches. Do you go to the same place of worship? Coworkers... I could go on... once you start brainstorming, you'll be amazed.

You also mentioned Eclipse has no quotas. Scentsy has just changed it's active consultant policy. ANY amount of PRV will now keep you active. They will only be canceling accounts once a year on January 1. So even IF you were your only customer, you won't cancel!

It is a difficult choice I know, and you will hear a lot of this is better than this. You need to do what you feel is best for YOU!

Keep asking questions too! You aren't bothering anyone ;)

Of course I'm going to vote Scentsy. :D You have received some good advice. I say view your friend as a partner instead of the competition. You can do events together, have fun learning together, etc. A businesses is so much more fun when you have someone who enjoys it as much as you do.

I joined Eclipse and what Daphne says I say ditto. I love this company. Being Christian base was important and the people are the best to work with. We are young and we are growing! Daphne has posted some great info on youtube so check it out. I back her 100% and Eclipse 100%!

It can be hard choosing the right company for you.

One piece of advice I have is call the actual company and speak to a warm body ;) Get ALL of your questions answered. Call back 5 times if you have to!

Just realize though, you truly will be your friends' competition if you go with another company...... That could go either way. :cool: lol

ETA: Just a thought I had..... Realize that you can take your faith with you wherever you go. You may look at other companies and find a Christian team, or, make your own! LOL Just thought I'd add that. There are Godly people all over the place ;)

I love being a part of Eclipse. The fact that they were an openly Christian company was huge for me, because I want Christ to be first in everything in my life - business included. You cannot imagine my sheer joy when I signed up and got to know the owners and saw that they were truly walking the walk. Christ really is at the forefront of this company. We pray together and ask Him to light our paths in all we do. It's AWESOME. I had four people ask me if they could host parties within two days of signing up. People love it.

As Jessica mentioned with our new reguirement--now with only a sell to stay active-you should have no problem staying active. And from the sounds of it you will be your own best customer...which I think is a must. I dont know anything about the other company but love our company. I recommend doing a quick market survey to validate your convictions. Maybe just start w/ friends and families... have them sample the products and provide feedback.

I saw the first page of this post and went off to look at eclipse, mia bella, and gold canyon's sites as I have only heard of them since being a member of some wahm boards. I must say that I was most attracted to the look of the eclipse candles. I am 34, married, two children, and like to think of myself as pretty in style. I like a good bargain but I won't hesitate to spend money when I want something. Eclipse looks like the party that my friends and I would attend. Not that it matters but it might appeal to people similar to me

OneBag, I am the same way. I would willingly pay for something that I felt was worth the money. I have been very impressed with the Eclipse warmer and with the monthly special for October, it is a very good bargain. I love that I can have the warmer on with my children and not have to worry that they will burn themselves. I really like that the bowls can be inexpensively replaced (VERY good news if you knew my kiddos). I really really love the scents!
