I'm looking to get into candle making as a hobby and possibly more, but I really have no idea where to start. I've researched and researched, but it's just easier to have an actual person break it down for you! smileys/smiley9.gif
So here goes:

Getting Started - I'd like to buy a starter kit of some sort, but am totally clueless as to which one and where to get it. I'd like one that includes all the basics (melting and pouringpot, therm, some sort of mold, wax, etc.) Basically something that when I receive it in the mail, I can get to it! (P.S. I don't live near any craft stores, so this has to be via the internet - I'd also like something reasonably priced.)

Type/Brands - I'd like to do soy candles, esp melts, but I have no idea what type/brands of wax, scents, dyes, packagingetc. are recommended. What do you use and where do you purchase it?

Instructions - I've googled and googled! I'm looking for a good starter receipe for soy candles and melts. Feel free to pm me your secrets! smileys/smiley2.gif

StarterHelp- What advice/tips/tricks/hints/whatever would you give to a newbie? Come on, bring it!

Any and all advice is welcome and totally appreciated! Thanks so much and have a great rest of the weekend!

Well, there are a whole lot of places that do sell starter kits. My suggestion would be to find a company that is close to you (shipping costs are going up). Pretty much anyone that sells the kits is going to sell all the supplies. So you will get a kit, it will come with all the directions and what not. If you like doing it, then you will know what to order next time (wax, wicks, etc...) and you will know the brand you like. Keep in mind, if you switch brands of wax from what you use in your starter kit, you will have to retest everything. Unfortunatly, what wax, wick, fragrance and jar combination that works for one person, will not nessacerily work for the next person. Thats why you dont see a "use this wax with this wick with this jar" type of chart anywhere. Hope this helps a little!
