Hi Ladies,
My unit meeting is this week and I'm going to do it about "Professionalism". I think about everyone in my unit has some part of it they don't grasp. Clean kit items, professional dress, professional speach, etc. etc. Anyway, I'm looking for your help in compliling a list of "To do" or "Not to do". I'm sure that many of you will come up with the things already in my head, but this will also help me think of things that maybe I'm not so good at or the things I don't happen to think of. Thanks so much for your help!!

Use the guests' name several times throughout the show.

Arrive at the hostess's home on time.

Leave the hostess's home at a reasonable hour.

Place the order in a timely manner...don't keep people waiting for their products.

These are just a few suggestions. If I think of anymore, I'll let you know!

Do take shoes off or offer to

Do ask for something to put drink down upon

Do turn off cell phone

Don't wear jeans or look sloppy

do smell good

don't smoke (I can always smell this on someone as a non-smoker and it is really strong after they first smoke and I can't be near them--I'm sensitive)

Don't be negative about other companies

Do smile

When using email, spell check, and treat it like a regular business letter. For example, use punctuation, capitalization, full sentences, etc.

If you must share personal information at a party, on a website, etc., keep it relevant. Not everyone may share your political and religious beliefs, so unless you don't want to sell to people with different belief systems, keep that in mind. Also, people may not want to know about your dead dog, recent surgery, etc.

Reply to requests for information promptly. Would you believe I sent out a request for info from one company and didn't hear back for a month?

Ask for the best methods of communication (home phone, work phone, call phone, email), and the best times of day to call. Also ask for the "taboo times." Don't make assumptions. For example, you can call my house til midnight if you want, but don't call before 10am on weekends because I don't want to chat! =}

Leave children at home and don't even ask if you can bring them.

Be clean - this includes removing excess pet hair from your clothes.

Create a script before your party. Make sure you have everything you need, and then you envision how you'd like the party to go.

Don't be a glutton with the party foods/drink. You're working, not a guest.

=},

Oh Christy, your first thing about the email I just made a mental note of talking about after reading an email from a lead that I got through the company. She wrote the entire thing with no punctuation or capitals. Yikes! Thanks to all, but I'm sure there are more to come. My meeting's not until Thursday so I'll keep compiling!

Use eye contact and smile smileys/smiley1.gif

If you are nervous while speaking to the group, look at the tops of the guests noses.

This may have been said, but always start on time

Have fresh breath smileys/smiley11.gifsmileys/smiley36.gif(but don't chew gum while at the party)

Speak clearly, not to fast. Sound positive, not like a robot! (try recording yourself practicing, listenback...how do you sound?)

Dress professionally and check your hair, make-up, and teeth before arriving (sounds funny but you don't want to find out after the show that you had a piece of food stuck in your teeth the whole time!)

Relax, enjoy yourself

Practice with a timer....I try to keep my initial presentation to 20 minutes, no more! (Don't bore guests by talking on and on and on). Then let guests experience your wonderful products...touch, smell, see, try. They will be more likely to want to book their own show.

Thoroughly hostess coach! Keep the hostess upbeat and enthusiastic before and during your party. SHE is the key to a successful event. Encourage her to get outside sales, call guests personally, share her product testimonial/s, get advance bookings, try products ahead of time, give out samples, etc. Be sure she know exactly what she canearn from you and your company!
[/list]

That's all for now! Great thread Lisa :0)
