I am putting together my first newsletter issue right now with Constant Contact. So far, I'm really impressed with the service and excited to get it sent out to my huge base of 15 subscribers smileys/smiley36.gif
Anyway, I had it all planned that I would do a

welcome

one product spotlight (Arb Int)

one short business article (benefits of becoming a consultant)

a promotion (20% of Bef Sun this month)

monthly raffle- winner chosen from my subscriber base

close/request to forward to a friend
[/list]
Here is my question, after doing more research about newsletters, it seems that a standard practice in the industry is to have your newsletter 80% content and 20% ads/commercials/products. Well, I really don't have any content! Now I'm wondering if people will pay attention to it at all. I know that the raffle will draw some attention and keep people subscribed, but will they pay attention to anything else I'm saying? Should I change the structure and try to find content articles?
Any other tips on writing a newsletter?

Hey, Carrie!! smileys/smiley1.gif
I've been trying to figure out what to put in mine, too! Just thinking about what I do when I get newsletters like that, though, (which may be totally different from what most people do...), I will click to open them if the subject line is about something that interests me, and read whatever article they have, but if it's too long, I sort of lose interest in reading the email to the end and looking at their specials or whatever. So maybe you could use a content article "headline" to get people to open the email, but keep it super short, maybe even just an informativesentence or two...or maybe you could do something funny, like a Top Ten list aboutmake-up bloopers or jokes about something related to skin care or something... just some ideas I've been working on! smileys/smiley1.gif
Talk to ya soon!

Constant Contact has newsletter formats that have bullet points for "Inside This Issue". I keep mine short & includea greeting, a contest/raffle i.e. For every $50 spent, your name goes into a drawing for X(whatever I have chosen for the month, it could be a specific product or it could be say $50 worth of makeup-their choice...whatever I want to create new interest in), a product highlight,a calendar of events(meetings, open houses, special speakers in the area, etc), and a "floating article" that alternates between highlighting the business, asking for referrals, asking for parties, etc.
I don't look at the newsletter as anything other than another tool to help people stay connected. Once you start tracking the number of people who actually open it you'll recognize that it is only another tool in your arsenal.

Thank you both for your insight and ideas, they are really helpful!
Yes Teresa, I think your right! The more tools and reach out methods we use and take full advantage of, the more people we will reach! I think newsletters are a great way to stay in touch with customers and introduce prospects to what you have to offer. The more exposures people have, the better :0)

you could write some articles about skin care or personal development, anything you learn from our learn n burns and arbonneuniversity or any trainings... just take your notes and write them into an articles... make sure if you quote someone to give credit where credit is due

I simply send out an e-letter each month...this includes the monthly specials from my web site, this month has the ACT NOW invitation to attend the conference with me, invite to a coffee information meeting at starbucks for one on ones. I usually get at least orders from this - so it is a good tool if you are trying to build volume.
