Welcome Jeri,
The telecommute job industry has many similarities to any other job but usually have to go the extra mile to land the ideal work at home job. It is pretty good to have a go getter attitude.
Here is a great place to start: http://www.wahm.com/forum/telecommuting-moms-34/370755-~-new-members-start-here~work-%40-home-job.html
You're in the right place to start.
Good luck,
Amanda

Hi Jeri,
I agree with Amanda and Karie. You picked a great place to start. There are lots of positions listed in this section of the forum, and new ones are added every day.
You can try searching this section of the forum for things you are interested in, like "customer service" positions, etc.
Good luck. :)

Hi Jeri,
Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!! I absolutely know how you feel. I felt the same way over 3 years ago. Just know that you are in the right spot. I know it can be frustrating, overwhelming, costly, and time consuming trying to wean out the scams from the legit work at home jobs but they are out there. If you want to take a more easier route you can pm me.

I started a blog to help some local friends find work at home jobs and also to help explain exactly how to set up their office and what basic expectations are when working from home.
My blog link is in my signature. If you scroll down the page, on the right you will see an area where you can click on other blog posts from the past. One of my first posts is about how to get started.
I hope this helps!

I'm surprized no one else has mentioned these places; Rat Race Rebellion Work at Home Jobs: Free Legitimate Work From Home Job Opportunities (http://www.ratracerebellion.com/) Guru.com and Odesk.com. Please be careful on the last two, Guru seems to have work but on commision base only. Odesk does offer hourly jobs, but you will be competeing with people in countries that are willing to work for a alot less money. Keep positive, and believe in yourself. The right job is out there.

WAHM is a awesome place to start your search! Rat Race Rebellion is really good too! additional I have free blog that offers a job directory: The Work at Home Secret Service (http://thewahss.com).
New jobs are posted on WAHM randomly throughout the day, so you should definitely bookmark it and check it often.

First let me say this is a great site and a great source of getting an idea of what home based positions are out there. This website will also looks out for you. If you receive an offer from a company, you can count on members from WAHM to help you in finding out if a company is legit or not. If you are unable to find anything now, keep checking back. I am sure that you will be able to find something soon. Another great website I use is ratracerebellion.com
Good Luck!!
