It is convention season for many direct sales companies and it is an exciting time with new products launches, incentives, and promotions. Many people come back motivated and are recharged to move forward with their business. I am wondering if any of you have attended a convention where you had a negative experience that turned you off from the company. This happened to me a few years back and it really affected my perception of the company.

Yes, that has happened to me. Several years ago I attended a convention and had my "aha" moment, but not in the sense we are supposed to. I was with my husband and we both just looked at each other, got up and left the arena. What was happening on the stage just affected us in a way that we did not want to be a part of it anymore. I came home and resigned from the company. But I still use a few of their products!! ;)

Now this year, on the other hand, I had a fabulous experience. Just got back from my first one and I KNOW I am in the right company. We are professional, ethical and simply amazing!. I am more than proud to be representing a fine designer and the Fall 2011 Collection is the best I've ever seen. Can't wait to start having my shows!

Cheryl,

Thanks for sharing your story. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who had a negative impression of the company after being exposed to the company culture at the convention. I am happy that you had a positive experience with your current company. All the best for a successful selling season.

I'm sorry to hear about anyone having a bad experience at their convention. I've been to three of mine and will be going to the fourth soon and I've had nothing but great experiences. I can't imagine what could make a convention that bad that you would quit. Glad you found a new company you're happy with.

I am at Jordan Essentials' convention RIGHT NOW! :D

Having a great time meeting lots of great ladies, learning a lot and putting the final touches on the two training classes I'm giving!

I have a had a couple bad experiences with other companies at conventions, but generally it's the consultants and not the companies who are at fault. It can sometimes be difficult to feel included if you are not there with a team. Of course, the same people that wouldn't save me a chair in prior years were the first to want a picture with me when I finished #4 in sales nationally (Silpada).

As a rule, conventions are a GREAT way to learn and to get connected with other ladies from around the country - if you can possibly attend the convention for YOUR company, you SHOULD!

I think national convention is a must for people who are serious about their business - even those who are just doing it as a hobby.

Not only is it an amazing networking opportunity, butthere is phenomonal training as well.

We just had our Willow House Convention last weekend and I have nothing but good things to say. It was a wonderful experience and I came home energized.

I should say that I don't have any other convention experiences to compare it to, but the ladies I spent four days with were positive, up-lifting, entertaining, motivating and taught me so much. I have a few new heroes too!

I'm sorry you had a not so good experience at your convention.
