Hi, I need help making a web page for an offline business. It is basically a real estate page, but I am just starting out. I want it to be very professional, but I have no idea how much this should cost or how much a domain name should cost as well. I checked GoDaddy.com, and it says that my domain name is available. I just don't know which package to go with. Something starts out at just $7.95 a year, and I am not sure of what I am paying for. I just need some basic information, and I am going to probably need this ASAP since I am about to start marketing my business this week, and I am going to be making cards next week.
Any information would be appreciated, and thanks for your time.
Summary
1. Price of Web Page
2. What exactly a domain name cost
3. I am completely confused, and I just need some general information.
Thanks,
I would appreciate any information.Edited by: JaydensMom

Domain name is your URL - address - what people will type in to find your web site - about $9 per year
Hosting - the online storage of your files - the back side that makes your web page work - with a site like yours you shouldn't need to pay more than a few dollars per month - most hosts give a small discount if you pay a year in advance
*I'd use www.godaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com) for both domain and hosting
ETA - when you check out on their shopping cart - you can ignore all the special offers, really you won't need any of themEdited by: tenXmom

There are several web hosts that offer free domain name registration. All you have to do is sign up for one year of hosting.
Typically for a basic web hosting package, you would pay about $7.95 a month. That basic web package is all you need to get you started.
Later if you need more space or bandwidth, you can upgrade your package. But I would start out with the basic package first.
Hope this helps.

Hi Jaydensmom -
Were you able to find somebody to help you out with your website and other information? If not, please let me know and I would be happy to help. I went back to school and could use some practice sites to build up my portfolio because this is the field that I am going into.
The two web hosting sites that I have checked out are: godaddy.com (somebody already suggested that one) and 1and1.com . Hope this helps.

I have been designing websites and consulting with website owners for over 13 years. This is a business that I am able to conduct out of my home office which allows me the flexibility to be a full-time mother and wife to my wonderful husband and four beautiful children. I am able to supplement our income, which allows me to have 3 of our children enrolled in a private Christian School.
My education is extensive in the computer field. All of my web designs are my original ideas working in conjunction with my client to assure that I deliver a website that is pleasing to the client. The types of programs that I use most often are HTML, DHTML, SHTML, JavaScript, CGI, Cascading style sheets, Front Page 2000, E-commerce, Shopping cart, Photo shop, Adobe, Caere, Corel, Microsoft Greetings Workshop, Microsoft Word and Works, Microsoft Excel and Office, Paint Shop Pro, Real Producer Plus, Quicken, FTP, and numerous other programs. By thoroughly knowing all of these programs I am able to offer my clients a wide variety of styles and options for their websites.
I am here to help with all your business or personal site needs. <BR>
Whether you are in the market for a brand new site and/or domain, or a re-doing an existing site. <BR>
I offer affordable web design to accomodate the small as well as large business owners.<BR>
I create by hand, fully customized business or personal sites. I do not create "web pages" made with WYSIWYG editors, or any other programs. This one will be hand coded to help you get found on the web.
You could also build the site yourself using a word processor or other web site program; however if you choose this route,
plan on spending quite a bit of time learning, to get your site to look professional. Creating a web site is not as
simple as typing a letter.
You want your site to look professional, so it is important to have a designer that will be with you from the start to
the finish of your web site and will also be there for changes or updates to your site.
The best thing for the beginner is to create a plan of the type of web site you think you would like. Do a search of other sites on the Web that would be similar to yours, to get an idea of what type of site you are looking for, and make notes of those sites, and what it is you liked about them (colors, layout, text size or shape, overall look, etc).
I offer FREE consultation, call or email us with your ideas, and I will get back to you with a quote or estimate.A down payment of half of this estimate will be required when ordering site design. This down payment is not refundable. This is a separate charge from the domain name and the hosting charges.
Support - You can contact us and get a prompt and courteous answer to any
question or concern you may have. We can grow with your web site, as you may want to make additions or changes to
your site in the future. We will also provide you with other ideas for driving traffic to your site (since this is the lifeblood of a successful web site).
