Does anyone out there have a work at home job that allows satellite internet connection?I live in a rural area and the only high speed connection I can get is by satellite. I have spent numerous hours to find a work at home, job but have run into companies that only allow cable or DSL connection. Would greatly appreciate any suggestions.:)

Thanks for your reply. Yes I can get a landline phone but my local phone company has not installed the fiber optic lines in my area to get DSL.

DSL runs over POTS (Plain old Telephone System), regular copper lines. Fiber is not used for DSL, that's a different service.

I have been trying to find a job that will work with satellite for a long time. I haven't found one yet. If you do find one I would love to hear about.
I know how it is to live where you have very limited internet choices. Most people/companies just assume that DSL/broadband is available everywhere when it isn't.
You may also want to look into starting your own biz (what I did) and make your own job that will work with satellite.

I too cannot get hardwired internet due to the rural area in which I live. Supposedly, later this year we are getting fiber optic in our area but I am not holding my breath for it.
From what I understand the reasons for not allowing wireless or satellite internet is because of security and speed. Most employers software require a specified speed or the software doesnt work properly.
I am researching starting my own virtual assistant business and I write a little at suite101. I have also made it into the testing phase at a search engine research job.
I will be watching this thread for anyone elses ideas on work at home jobs with out the need for a hardwired internet service. I need to work in my home so I can be near to my husband who has heart problems and will need a heart transplant eventually. He is self sufficient but I hate leaving him for long periods of time.

The trouble with satellite is the lag time it takes for the signal to get up to the satellite and back down to the ground, this is not good for things like VOIP.
Fixed point wireless though doesn't have this problem, though there may be security concerns with this option, encryption could be used. But that is up to the company on what they will allow.

My internet actually comes in with an antenna and is wired from there to the modem from what I understand. My computer/internet usually fails the download speed and is about 1419.02 kbps instead of the 2000 kbps they usually require. Everything else always passes just fine on the internet speed test.

Sounds like a fixed point wireless setup. They are capable of more then that, just depends on what the ISP offers, you might be able to upgrade it to a higher speed though.

I'm stuck with dial up because I refuse to get satellite . If it's anything like my TV reliability, I don't want it!!! LOL! I have a land line phone, but no DSL available. I guess we have the real old old phone lines... even though I had to pay to have new poles and power run to my house in 05'... go figure?? :( .
I feel your pain srferrell, I can't stand not having the right connection to get jobs.

It may not be the phone line. DSL depends on the distance (wire wise) to the CO and the telco having the equipment needed at the CO.
