If you buy products at a discount and resell them (as opposed to
catalog, internet, etc. sales), does your company charge any applicable
sales tax and submit it, or do you need to do this yourself? My
companies each handle it differently, but I'm trying to get a sense for
what is the norm. I'm concerned about getting into tax problems...
I will, of course, follow up with my state governement, but I want to be a bit more well-informed before that takes place.
Thanks,
Christy

One ofthe Companies I am withcollects sales tax wheneverI place the order - the others I have to collect and report to my State at the end of the year
I have a State Tax ID # for my State(cost $25 to get it)- I applied for the yearly send in-could alsosend in tax on a quarterly basis.I keep track of all my sales and when they send the forms, just fill it out and send in a check for the money - have to keep aware if there is a tax change for your city too - and if I send the tax in by a certain date I got like a 3% discount and did not have to send it all in - I think it was like .12 cents off LOL
Check with your States Dept of Revenue - this is where I got the application to apply for the ID# - it also has charts to print off with the assorted tax rates
But when I received the form at the end of the year-it did not ask what cities I sold in - just wanted all sales figured for the city my Biz is out of - so I figure out tax on all my items, wne ahead and priced all my cash& Carry with the tax included - this makes it easier for me since I do mostly Craft Shows
Any orders I take I then just do the tax - also check to see if your state taxes shipping, as mine does
Hope this has helped some
