View Full Version : Would this get your dander up?

A few nights ago I was reading--and can't remember exactly where I read
this now--but somebody was saying that companies like ours do nothing
more than "recruit salesmen"! The person was saying that we don't
REALLY "have a business"; we are just salesmen that happen to have to
pay all our own expenses rather than being PAID TO SELL like
traditional, non-direct, salespeople are. The conclusion this person
made was that anyone doing direct sales like we are is basically
ignorant because we'd do better by creating and selling our own
products rather than doing all the work, absorbing the expenses, and
getting a commission from a company that just wants an "army of
salespeople" that they don't have to pay "real" salaries.

I should have bookmarked this, because I'd like to read it again, since these comments have stuck in my mind...

I, personally, have in the past sold items that I've made. I joined
Scent-Sations so that I could have a great product to sell, be able to
make a little money, and NOT have to spend the time making my own
products.

What do the rest of you think about these comments? I thought it might be good for discussion.

Becky,

I guess, to me, I just let those kind of comments roll off my "hard shell", so to speak. First off, I don't suggest recruiting anyhow--recruiting is (in my mind) signing up a bunch of warm bodies, with no real clue as to whether or not they really want to join my business in the first place (other than the fact that I must have "convinced" them to join). I like to think that what we do is sponsoring--sponsoring implies much, much more (and we do for our folks much, much more) than simply signing someone up. A sponsor guides, teaches, is a cheerleader, a mentor, and to me, I'd MUCH rather have someone like that than just a name above me in an upline. smileys/smiley2.gif

For me, network marketing IS a valid, viable form of business. Unfortunately, it doesn't get everyone's respect. That's okay, too.

The old saying, "Some will, some won't, so what, NEXT", comes to mind. heheh

I have to say I've definitely gotten comments like this from time to time. One of the reasons I chose Scent Sations is because of the freedom and flexibility to do this the way I want! I set my own prices, have my own sales, incorporate these products in my other business (gift baskets and making favors) all whiledistributing a terrific product (that I would totally use anyway)! smileys/smiley32.gif

I've found that those who make comments like this are the ones that are either ignorant or jaded. I'm just happy I found something that I can believe in and feel proud to promote. smileys/smiley32.gifsmileys/smiley32.gif

Hi Becky et al!smileys/smiley17.gif

lolsmileys/smiley36.gif I love the Subject Title you chose!

It doesn't get my dander up! smileys/smiley1.gif

I love when people speak about the "security" of Corporate America!

umsmileys/smiley5.gif

THERE IS NO MORE SECURITY in Corp. America.

People better wake up, especially MOMS! We all need to find what works FOR US to create present and FUTURE Personal and Financial Freedom.

I was pushed into Corporate America by OTHERS, not my own passion. I practiced law (family, including divorces, child custody, support, etc. and bankruptcy).

It was very stressful, with high overhead and NO RESIDUAL INCOME!smileys/smiley11.gif

I heard very sad real life stories from MANY CLIENTS about not having freedom with respect to life choices. Most people in this country are living paycheck to paycheck and on credit. There are basically dwindling "benefits" with J.O.B.s, if any.

Many employers now are hiring people as Independent Contractors so they won't have to pay health or retirement benefits.....

YIKES.... don't get me startedsmileys/smiley11.gif

smileys/smiley36.gif

I have created personal and financial freedom for my family and now am helping others do the same. I don't have to live in the fallacy of the "protection" of Corporate America.

I basically have no overhead, work with the most Scent-Sational people WOW!, "work" when and how I choose to AND RECEIVE Incredible RESIDUAL INCOME!!

I could go on....smileys/smiley2.gif

Have FUN!!

Hi Becky!smileys/smiley17.gif

Nope- I sure don't let people like that get my dander up! I don't have the
time- I'm too busy working with awesome customers and business
partners (who sought ME out, by the way) and having a great time with
my home business.smileys/smiley4.gif

For example, my friend Debbie who has Multiple Sclerosis called me up
last night to choose some new candle scents and place an order. --She
swears by our candles and says they have been a lifesaver for her! -She
claims they have an aromatherapeutic quality like no other candles she's
tried, and they help to boost her mood and elevate her energy when she's
having difficult days.WOW!smileys/smiley32.gif

We picked out Ginseng Energizer and Ginger and Bergemot for her this
week!

When I'm not helping Debbie pick new candle fragrances, I'm either
working to keep myself in stock with Sweet Orange & Chili Pepper candles
so my family don't fight over them (Ha!) or glued to my computer and
cell phone, working with great team members who are moms that are
now building successful businesses that allow them to create learning
experiences for their children, and stay home to raise them while earning
income for the family.

Doesn't sound like I'm a recruiting robot, does it?smileys/smiley36.gif

Let the negative people dwell on their misinformation and miss the boat
on this awesome program. As for me and my team and customers, we'll
be over here have a Scent-Sational time, building friendships, burning
candles, and creating wealth!smileys/smiley20.gif

I'm in Corporate America now myself and it sucks! I'm hoping to get out of it with this business, and things are looking up - I only just started and I have had a lot of sales at my antiques booth and I'm starting to approach some area businesses.

Real salaries?! LOLOLOL!! The only people in traditional business who get paid 'real' salaries are the corporate honchos who spend their days sitting in oversized offices and literally blowing smoke out of their a**ses while the folks who do the real work settle for a yearly allowance that just pays living expenses....barely in most cases. And don't get me started on the greedy, self-serving SOBs who'd rather hire illegal immigrants and put Americans out of a job just so they can put more money in their pocket--that's a whole other thread on a different forum.

I may not have a'business', but if I get to determine my own paycheck, can call the shots, taketime off when I want, give myself a promotion when it's due,not have to bother with employees or overhead and still pay allmy bills and have lots of money left over to treat myself, I'd gladly take that overwhat Corporate Americahas to offer any day.

Wow, there are some GREAT replies here!

Don't get ME started on the lack of security in corporate America either, because that DOES get my dander up!!! smileys/smiley7.gif

I left my last job, a little over a year ago, due to some chronic
health problems, and I absolutely do NOT want to have to find another
J.O.B.(Just Over Broke) if I can help it.

I agree--as long as I can work the hours I want to, have the freedom to
market the way I want to, take a day off when I need to, get to be
creative, and make a little bit of money (even if it's just a little
bit)--I don't care what the naysayers want to call it. I will call it
"being successful". smileys/smiley36.gif

Sure can't wait to get that first online order though, lol! smileys/smiley2.gif

They fail to mention that Salespersons in other companies are usually paid a very low low base wage (if that)and the rest is commission (and a low percentage of commission at that), so our payment is actuallybetter because we make a better commission and are able to get residual income.

So many times I was chosed to train the new employee at my 9-5, but did I get a percentage of their sales or salary, NOOOOOOO!

Direct Sales and MLMs are fantastic for the self motivated person that wants a better life. You get paid based on your efforts which is the way it ought to be.

Peoplewho need to fall back on the base salary are not in the job for very long - they would be fired. Most of us do sell our products, it is hard not too, but we don't have quotas and they do.

Plus: what is wrong with being paid to share thisopportunity? Some human resources personell and all Head Hunters/Employment Agencies 9-5 type peopleare paid a bonus to place new employees in the work force, so what is wrong with that for us too??How wonderful is this company???smileys/smiley1.gifEdited by: lovethiscandle

Lori, how wonderful to have the freedom to be planning that trip, huh?

We may be "just salespeople", but we have a lot of fun, and a lot of freedom!

I can't say I had much of either of those when I was glued to my office chair somewhere, doing the ol' 9-5. smileys/smiley11.gif

'Course, I'm still glued to my office chair, lol, but at least it's in my OWN office! smileys/smiley36.gif

I took a wonderful business FUN trip last year throughout the coast (south up to north via pacific coast highway) California. I can't wait for this one and I'll get to meet some really Scent-Sational peeps!

I've had "freedom" for a long time now and I'm NEVER GOING BACK!smileys/smiley3.gif

Oops, Lori, I guess I wasn't quite clear there...I meant my office at HOME.

From there I do various things--sell artwork, work on the candle biz,
and just recently I have added selling articles I have written to the
mix! smileys/smiley32.gif

So, with all of those, I'm STILL glued to my chair, but at least it's a lot more FUN! smileys/smiley36.gif
