when you are determining your price for an e-commerce site?<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I always see pricing questions here, but for me personally, knowing what questions to ask in order to determine my price would be more helpful.

To make this thread helpful to everyone...lets start out from the beginning when a potential client first contacts you.

Hypothetical email from potential client:

I'm planning on getting a website next month. I sell these widgets that I would like to sell through my website. How much do you charge?

Sorry for the vagueness of the email (aren't all initial emails vague though lol)

Hi Sara,

Feel free to take a look at my shopping cart planning worksheet (http://www.riversidewebstudio.com/Shopping-Cart-Planning-Worksheet.pdf). I listed several questions that designers need to know the answers to in order to make an effective e-commerce site.

One thing that makes a big difference is to ask them how many products they want on their site. And if they want to add the products in themselves (once you set up their cart) or if they want you to add in everything for them.

This makes a major difference in how much time it takes to build the site - and an important point to know when giving a price quote. :)

For me the most important questions are simple questions, for example, 'What type of layout are you wanting?', I ask this because a lot of people do not like the basic ecommerce look, then of course I run through pretty close to the same list as chrlstoncharmed listed, you know, products, product #'s, taxes, shipping etc... then I ask about colors and font styles, I try to get as much detail as possible before even starting. My philosophy is why do anything unless you're going to do it RIGHT!
