I'm having the hardest time finding a WAH position b/c a lot of them aren't hiring CA residents.

Hi,

I live in N. California and I am so frustrated with that too! I have had to pass up so many great opportunities just because I live in the wrong state! I feel your pain! :)

Use your imagination! I have successfully done it and am working now.

You are trying to make a living and cannot help it that California laws are anti-employer. Those laws are why 1/3 of your neighbors are out of work.

Since you are working virtually, use a virtual address and telephone number. Florida seems to be a state that most companies accept, so search for " florida mail forwarding service" and set up a post office box there or in the state of your choosing. USABox.com is the one that I use.

You can also get an incoming telephone number from Yahoo Messenger for $2.99 a month in nearly any area code you choose. Go for it!

Your state isn't the only that doesn't seem to hire I live in New Mexico, all the states around here offer jobs . Plus most jobs seem to want you to be Bi-lingual or upselling or the lastest move contract work.

Junruh,
I'm curious as to how you file your taxes. I am assuming you chose Florida because there is no state tax. Do you also have another job within your real home state? I am curious as to how you would file state taxes if you also have a job where taxes are deducted in your home state. How would you justify the added income to your federal return but not to your state return? Wouldn't you still end up paying taxes to the state of CA since that would put you in a higer tax bracket? Also, how would you justify the different residential addresses if your other job is full time and there is no way you can say you worked two or more months in the other state to earn the income?

I just pay my taxes in the regular manner. A Florida mailing address is just for the purpose of getting hired. The companies hiring you really don't care where you plug in your PC, just where they send the paperwork to.

Hi, I don't live in CA, but I am working for Working Solutions and a few of my fellow colleagues are independent contractors that live in CA. You may want to try them out and apply Working Solutions - Agent and Technology Contact Center Solutions (http://www.workingsol.com).

They hire from time to time, not sure if they are hiring at this time, but keep you application on file, never know when when they will.

Good luck,

I must mention that if you apply for a job as a Florida resident without living there, you need to be prepared to continue with that information through any verbal interviews, and even during any chats at work. Get a little familiar with your virtual home town.

If you put down on your application that you live someplace, and then say in your interview that you really don't live there, that is lying on your application and you will be dismissed, even after you are hired.

So, once you decide that Florida is your home state, keep it that way during all communication with anyone at the company that you are working for, including chats with your coworkers.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this, then put down your real home address on your applications, and simply don't get interviewed.

Why would anyone pretend to be from one state just to fill a job? That's a little risky and dishonest.

I agree, this would be pretty dishonest. However from a tax perspective, it really is no different than if you have two home and traveled between the two. As for paying taxes, I live on the border of Idaho and Oregon. You have to pay tax for both here if you live in one state and work in the other.
