Who on here has done this? I have a FANTASTIC idea for a DS business, but I need to pick someones brain/maybe read up on the odds and ends before I get too far into it.

PM me or post here if you've started up your own DS business from the ground up.

Wondering if there's been a guide written on this too. Ebook - print edition, etc. specifically for DS businesses.

Thanks

HiOnel,

Congratulations on your business idea! This must be an exciting time for you. In order to start your own DS business, two of the most important things you'll need are an attorney and an accountant. I've seen too many small start-ups go through horrible tribulations because they simply weren't aware of some legal basics when setting up their business. For instance, I've seen countless business owners have their businesses nearly destroyed by a former consultant who uses the knowledge she's gained as a consultant to go out and start her owncompany with a similar product line. That could have been avoided if only the original business owner had known about the standard business practice of instituting a "No Compete" clause. Then there are others that get into trouble because they aren't filing the correct paperwork or are reporting their business income for tax purposes incorrectly, simply because they didn't know or didn't understand the legal or tax responsibilities of a business owner who wholesales product or who has consultants. Setting up a business the right way isn't something that can be done overnight, nor can it be done without the assistance of professionals. Asking the advice of others "who've done it" is great, but please don't rely on just that alone. Remember that just because someone has started their own business doesn't mean that they're doing it properly. A good attorney and a good accountant will save you loads of headaches in the long run.

Ok... I'll get off my soap box now. smileys/smiley1.gif
