I'm with lia sophia jewelry, and as Advisors, we make 30% commission. I have been bringing home $1200 or more a month with only doing 4 home shows. I usually have 1-2 book shows each month as well. The cost of doing business with lia sophia is very low. Our catalogs only cost $.65 each! All of the other paper work is also extremly reasonably priced. The reasonI can bring home so much money in only a few shows, is because lia sophis has a very high show avaerage. My personal average is around $800 per show! As for how long did it take to get here, well that is an interesting story. I started at the end of July, but when I started I didn't have any shows line up at all! Dummy me! So I struggled in the begenning. Then finally in October I got 2 solid shows lined up and from there it has snowballed. So with just a few initial shows, you can eaily grow your business into a$1000 a month income.

Hi Sharon!
With any biz, there are things to consider. Many businesses that have a higher commission, also require their consultants to pay for other things, like the hostess plan, credit card processing, bags, etc.
To give an example, I recently signed up with a company to help a friend. I knew commission was 40%. Well, once I signed up, I realized, it is tiered commission. The more you buy/sell, the higher discount/commission you get. Plus, you are responsible for hostess gifts. Well, I don't plan to purchase that much for my discount.
What a business really comes down to, if you want to make money, is not direct commission, but your downline commission. Some business have a high personal commission, but you make 2% on your downline.
With a strong team, you can hit so many more people, touch more lives and make a lot more money.
Another thing to look at is bonuses. For example, as a manager, I make 40%. But, I can make $200+ in cash bonuses just for things like having a structure place or hitting certain criteria. So if I was to add that in, my commission would go up.
I always hated numbers. But what I found when comparing companies for fun, and getting to know others, in the end it all evens out if you work your business right.
The companies with the higher commission rates are usually your bath & body and Jewelry since their costs are not as high.
My advice is to always start with your passion and go from there. I was talking to my upline who had to see what the hype was on a 50% Jewelry commission company, so she joined. She does not wear or like jewelry. She's very successful in our company, and couldn't get very far with the Jewelry.
Hope that helps a bit!
Debbie

With Mary Kay, there is profit PLUS commission on team building. As with ANY party plan, it is up to you to plan your work and work your plan. So if you wanted to make $1000.00 a month in Mary Kay, you would sell $2000.00 in product until you build your team, then you would earn both profit and commissions (and the career car).

With Southern Living at HOME, I can easily make $1,000 a month from my parties. We earn 25% commission, plus as a director I also earn an extra 9% on my own sales and that of my team's.
SLAH also pays us 5% on all of our sales in business supply credits. We use these credits to pay for catalogs, order forms, giveaway cookbooks, Training DVD's, etc. That is Huge!! Plus SLAH pays for all the hostess benefits and credit card processing.
The key is to finding something you will enjoying selling. If you're trying to make money with something you don't love, it'll be very difficult to make $100... let alone $1,000. I hold about 6-8 shows a month. (Some are catalog parties) Obviously, the more shows I have, the more money I make, the better chance I have at sponsoring someone, and booking more shows. It just a snowball effect.
Whatever company you decide to go with, have 4-6 shows lined up BEFORE you sign the agreement. You'll set yourself up for great success!
Good Luck!

Hi Sharon,
Good question! smileys/smiley2.gifIt's good you're planning HOW to accomplish your goals and what it will take each month. So many people know how much they want to make but don't have a specific plan on how to make it happen.
With Usborne we make 25% on our home shows, up to 30% on direct salesand 17-25% on book fairs and our RFTS fundraiser. If you're wanting to make afew thousand a month you would need to work all aspects of the business, home shows, book fairs, school & library sales, fundraisers, and at least a small team. The difference with home shows and our book fairs and fundraiser is you are dealing in a much larger volume than you could ever get from having 2 to 3 times that amountin home shows a month.
Example: If you have a RFTS fundraiser and have 30 kids in the school participating (that's what, 1 grade in a small school) and they each bring in $150 in pledges that would bring your fundraiser total to $4,500, not too bad. Your commission on that would be 25%, $1,125. If you do one or two a month plus a book fair and throw in a few home shows a month and commission from your team, you're doing pretty good!!
I have a formula broken down of how many schools, churches, or nonprofits I need to work with and how many times a year for the RFTS fundraiser and how many bookfairs and home shows to make what I would like to make. It's definitely obtainable, it just takes a plan and sticking to it. smileys/smiley2.gifEdited by: lisa2u

Ok, I've seen jewelry companies brought up an awful lot out of the blue here lately. Am I missing something or is there a buzz about jewelry right now? Or is it just because now that I'm part of a jewelry company I am noticing when it's mentioned? I must say that all companies that pay 50% commission do not require you to pay for Hostess benefits or anything else. Latasia has no such requirements. Latasia also has wonderful downline commissions.
Now, you specifically asked about companies with 20-30% commissions so that's what I'll address. I was with a company for a year anda half that paid only 25% commission. I LOVED that company so it never was an issue for me. I had a high show average and bringing home $125 to $250 for a couple hours of work rocked! Then I started building a team and promoted to Director. That was when I realized how much money you can make by building a team. I made 7.5% of my teams RETAIL sales. So, in addition to bringing home around $1200 a month in up front commissions off my parties, I was also adding another $800-$1000 a month from my team. If the company would have stayed in business longer I would probably be at least bringing home $2000 off my team by now. But it didn't. So here I am, LOL.
So, yes, you CAN make a great living if you've fallen in love with a company offering 20-30% commissions. You have to work that business and respect it just like you would if you were leaving your house to go to an outside of the home job everyday. You have to love and believe in your company enough to get in touch with the people that are going to help you make a strong business. If the company you are choosing to go with has the lower end up front commission, don't wait to start building a team. When you are talking about your products to people, talk to them about the opportunity as well. Because once you start bringing in that "residual" income to add to your up front commissions you will love it.
One more thing to realize, downline commissions can sound amazing. But you have to know that most companies pay the downline commissions off your teams WHOLESALE sales. Wholesale is usually the percentage left over after the consultant keeps her part off the top. For instance, you make 30% off a party. Then usually, that 70% is what you are going to figure when trying to figure out how much you are going to get paid off of a team members sales. So, you have a $300 party. You keep $90 of that at 30%. That leave a wholesale volume of $210. Your upline would make her percentage from you on that amount. If it's 10% on your team, she would make $21 on your $300 party.
For Latasia, since we make 50% off the top, our wholesale is 50%. I had a $680 party yesterday morning. I kept $340 off the top. That left $340 in wholesale volume. So, my Director who is a first level Director made 13% of that which is $44.20. Since my sales are were $2700 last month, she made a total of $175.50 off of just me. She has several other team members that are producing nearly as much a month as well so she's making a great residual income off her team.
When you have a lower up front commission you usually have a little higher downline commission than companies that pay more up front. There are pros and cons to both types. You just have to figure out if you want to make more immediately or more once a month off of a team. Either way, it's great and it basically all evens out in the end. You just want to make sure you build a team to take advantage of the opportunities that the company has in place for that.
Ok, hope I didn't just confuse you more, LOL. I wish you all the best and when you find a company you love, all of this will just be part of the job. You won't even think about stressing over it.

Hi Sharon, I know there are many great companies out there, and if you plan to work your business seriously, you should not have trouble earning that kind of income. One of the most important things to think about is if the product is something you personally LOVE, you use, it's consumable and will get reorders from raving fans! Something you can show and your guests will KNOW that you love it!! They can really see your excitement about what you are doing.
If you have founda few products that you love, then do your research and compare not only commission, but also bonuses, overrides, etc. Get on some of the websites you see in the signatures and spend some time looking into and asking questions about the companies and products that interest you.
Best of luck!
Carrie

Hi Sharon,
If you're interested in commissions, BeautiControl offers at least 25% discount up to 50%. If someone orders from you personal website, it is 40% commission.
Once you have consultants on your team/unit, you will earn commission from their sales. If spas and skin care are possibly your thing, it's a great time to check out BeautiControl b/c the joining cost is usually 250 and this month is's 99. (with that you get ove $500 in products so it's such a great deal). I'd love to answer any questions. The ladies here have given you so much great advice on choosing a company that's right for you - I hope you find what you love and that you can make some money with, too. THanks for asking!

I make 35% on my personal sales and I also make 8% on my first level team and 5% on my second level. I do make over $1k a month. I have been in the business for four years and they just changed the comission, it was maxed out at 25%. So I see myself with a bigger check this month.

Hi,
I'm with Northern Lights at Home and we make 30% commission and have a 5% bonus if we're over $1200 in sales for the month. I do make money at this but I do about 12+ parties per month, plus have a downline and I always make my bonus. My bonus check and downline check go directly into our household budget while my 30% goes back into my business and buys us the little extras like dinner out and clothes. We don't pay anything for host benefits, but we do pay for supplies like catalogs, etc. It can be challenging to make money, but for one thing you have to only buy the products you NEED and not what you want. That's something we all have trouble with. Plus, you need to have consistant sales. Doing 2 or 3 or 4 parties a week, whichever you can do. Some people above mentioned they do less and make more, but I'd be willing to bet their in minority or also have downline that contribute to that. But that's just it, you have to work the ENTIRE business and that includes recruiting to really make good money at it. And again, I can't stree enough that you need to be consistantly booking new parties and always have a full calendar. Something that has taken me a while to achieve and I really have just learned how to do over the past year. Our new VP has been very instrumental in getting me to understand HOW to do it. The parties don't fall from the sky no matter what anyone tells you. It's a job and just like a "real" job you have to do the work to get the paycheck. Party Plans are no different.

Home Interiors and Gifts is 30% commission... Average party is $500.00. if you have 8 events in a month at $500.00 each, you would make about $1200.00 or so. Plus your downline, you get 2% on personal until you have 5 personal recruits selling at least $150.00 in wholesale per month --- You get paid 5% once you hvae 5 working personals and you can sign a letter of intent to become a unit director. Once a unit director and you have 20 on your team, you would earn 12% on all your personals. I looked at my account today and last month I earned $26.00 on myself and one other gal. Not much $$ but it I can see the difference.
Let me know if you want more info. Good luck on your search for the right company.

I once worked a company making 20-25% commission. At the time, I
felt great about it. Now that I have worked some companies with
higher commissions--I see how much more I can earn with less
work! The original company was Pampered Chef--so believe me, I
worked for the money--cooking, carrying stones to and from,
cleanup--plus all the normal party plan calling etc. Then, I sold
Spice It Up (50% commission) and the parties were super easy and fun
plus I made a bunch of money. However, I have stopped doing SIU
for other reasons and gave all my bookings to my sister. I also
am active with Noah's Ark (even though it is missing from my sig
currently) with commission of 35-45%--this is fantastic money!
Workshops are only an hour and the products are already sold before you
get there. I take alot of product in, but leave with a lot
less. I'm not trying to recruit you over, but high commission are
wonderful! Of course, building a team is nice too, but with high
commissions you can earn alot without a team. A team is rewarding to
have, but it is definately more work for the extra benefits.

I make 42% commission and 8% off my downline.
Making $1000/month shouldn't be too difficult if you have a company and a product that you love andcan fully stand beind.
Just do your research and you will find something perfect for you...there are SO many options!

I have to agree with Angie and Cindi.
One reason I chose to start a home based business is because I don't
WANT to work for someone else. I am SOLD on network marketing and
building a passive and dependable stream of income, and I won't ever go
back to working for less than 100% profit margin and the ability to earn
residual income without having to "prove" myself by meeting monthly
requirements or quotas.
I know that it is possible to earn $1000 monthly with a party plan
program that has a 20% or 30% commission pay scale, because a lot of
women here do this. But I also know that it isn't guaranteed- if you get
ill, or take a vacation, or have a slow month, the money doesn't come in
and in some plans, there are penalties or you can't receive your downline
commission- or worse- you can lose your status or your downline. Eep!
I like the fact that if money is tight, I can schedule a party and do $1500
in sales and go home with $750 profit in my pocket. I also enjoy that I
am able to continue building my team of great Mia Bella leaders, and
continue to receive a paycheck every month, whether I am actively
retailing and recruiting or I take the month off to spend time with family
and friends. Each month I know I can depend on that residual income.
But when everything is said and done, the important thing is to find a
program that meets *your* needs and allows you to earn what you require
each month with a time and investment requirement you can commit to.
With all the choices available, there is definitely something out there for
everyone! The trick is taking your time, doing your research, and then
finding the right opportunity, the best team in the company, and finally,
right Sponsor for you.
Best wishes for success and happiness. Whatever you do, don't settle.

women here do this.
