View Full Version : My version of Twister the movie!

I am back home from a very successful spa party in the St Louis area! 3 bookings and $400 in sales...not bad!
On my way home today, I got stuck in a nasty storm that was straight out of the movie Twister. I saw a tail of a cloud start to turn into a funnel right before a rest area...but before I got there, I saw parts of a silo and the roof of the silo roll across the road. The car was hard to control, but I made it to the rest area parking lot. Julia was asleep in the back seat. When I got out of the car to get Julia, my glasses flew off my head and landed in the windshield wiper area of the car. We made it to the building and there was no damage to the car.....what excitement we had on I-55 one hour north of St Louis.
So if you all don't mind, I am going to send out the surveys and other things in the morning.
Too much excitement for one weekend!

Living in TX all those years has trained me well. I knew the county I was driving in was under a tornado warning and I was going to stop anyway. But seeing the tail convinced me that going forward was stupid. When I got to the parking lot of the rest area there were only 3 cars there, but tons of trucks. One flipped over in the parking lot because it was empty. By the middle of the storm, there were about 200 people in the rest area with us.
It truly was like a scene from Twister minus the house and cow flying across the road!
My Sister who had the party has significant damage at her house. She was frantic knowing I couldn't out run the storm and not knowing where I was. This storm came up so fast! Had I known, we would have stayed there in the basement.
Looks like this spring is going to be quite active here in tornado alley. Not looking forward to seeing another tornado anytime soon!
Be careful and safe this spring traveling to your parties!

Wow Vickie! I'm glad you and Julia made it home safe. Living in TX we watch the Weather Channel A LOT! We were watching the storms in your area. It looked like it was very bad up there.
Oh! I'm glad you had a really good party too!Edited by: MissChievious

I should have watched the weather channel in St Louis too. Didn't think since it was such a nice sunny day. But it is spring and so far we have had a lot of tornadoes in IL and MO. Guess there were a few around Peoria last night too according to a neighbor.
The weather channel was on everyone's tv in my old neighborhood! We couldn't always hear our talking sirens.

So glad you and your little one are safe, Vicki!!!!! I live probably about 4 hours South of St. Louis and we got hit in this area pretty bad. We were at church when the call came through to seek shelter. We didn't get any damage from the 1/2 mile wide twister that came through but several vehicles sustained hail from golfball-baseball size. A neighboring town got the full force of the tornado and they are without water and power, and many are without homes. The whole town is shut down due to gas leaks and power outages. The schools got hit bad, a church was hit and the congregation was still in it! Thank God no one was killed.
I still want the survey but take your time- rest- the Lord definitly had his hand upon you- I am glad you are safe!

Good thing I went to church with my Sister that morning. I prayed to be safe and I thankful to be here today. Never take a day for granted! Tornadoes scare me to death! I can't wait for this spring to get over with.
We travel thru MO a lot to get back and forth to TX. One year we were following all the storm chasers thru the Springfield area. We stopped for something to eat. Didn't want to get into trouble!
My car did have some damage, but it is minor.
Glad to hear that everyone your way is safe beautigurl2!

Vicki,
I am so glad you and your daughter are safe. I live in TN and was watching a DVD last ngiht. I knew the storm we were haivng was bad but I really wasn't paying that much attention to it. At one point I did pause the movie and turned on the weather and realized we were in the middle of a torando watch. I am so thanksfull it never reached us but Dyers County is less than an hour from us and they had lots of damage and deaths. I am a California girl and don't like these Tornados. I much prefer earthquakes :) Get me back to the West Coast! LOL
Glad you all are safe :)

Vicki!
Oh my goodness, that is so scary! You were so blessed to escape all that unscathed. I will be praying for you and everyone else in that area throughout the spring! I definitely take things for granted sometimes...I'm sittine here complaining about the sprinkling rain we're having because I want the sun to come out! Your post makes me realize that things could be so much worse. I need to put on my raincoat and go outside and dance and be thankful LOL.
Glad you had a great Spa too. Keep up the awesome work!
