Why do some work at home jobs require a webcam on your computer? Many people like to work at home in their pajamas. Is it to be videotaped online? Has anyone had to use a webcam for their work at home job?

It depends on the type of job. If you're doing website testing, they want to see your reactions to the site. There are adult jobs that, of course, are completely cam dependent. Other than that, I think requiring a webcam is pushing a bit into the realm of invasion of privacy, and might open them up for legal issues with the IRS regarding the classification of independent contractor vs. employee.

I agree. It seems a bit odd and invasive that a company would require a web cam for an independant contractor, unless of course it is an adult related job.

I know Odesk requires a webcam, or at least they did when I was looking at it, and it's one of the reasons I didn't continue the sign up process. That and the insanely low rates people want to pay for jobs on there. Honestly, as long as the work is getting done, clients really do not need to see me on webcam doing it. Especially since I might not always look top form when working in my pajamas LOL

Not adult related - some companies like to use web cams for webinars/seminars and to make meetings more personal - both sales and customer support
