View Full Version : As Joan Rivers Would Say...

..."Can we tawk?" (insert New York accent here smileys/smiley2.gif )

There is a situation with two companies in the Party Plan business that are
having "issues"... I'd like to make an attempt at at least co-existing with
the least amount of (I don't even know what the best word is to use
here...rare for me) competitive cattiness? It'll do for now.

I'll call one "Company X", or just "X" for short, and the other one will be
"Company Y", or "Y" for short. X has been in business for a few years
now. Y is the new company started by the same person that was
instrumental in X.

The two are very similar, (X seems to be mostly Home Decor, and Y has
some Home Decor, kitchen "stuff", and presentation pieces) and I
anticipate that both will remain and become very successful. The reasons
that the person left X are their own, and no one but those directly
involved know the truth surrounding the situation. I have heard directly
from the person their reasons for leaving. In corporate America this
happens every day. Ever hear of "head-hunters"?

Corporations are always looking for those who they believe will do the
best job, and offer incentives to attract them.In this type of business, it
is no different at the cororate level, yet most who are in the sales-force
feel betrayed, and are left with bitterness as a result. Suddenly the
person who, prior to leaving, "hung the moon" , is now a "has-been"?
C'mon, that's not true.

If we all just concentrate on our businesses, we will do well. The rest is
not worthy of effort, as far as I am concerned.

The reason I bring this up is because I went to a very large women's expo
over the weekend, and there were gals from X who would come over
"incognito" , arms folded over their chests (that's how they gave
themselves away), and were asking what the differences were. All
questions were answered as if we did not know who they were.

The time they wasted at our booth (and mind you, I am not compalining)
would have been better spent with speaking to other women, I think...

I personally don't mind the questions, but believe that negative energy
begets negative energy.

My best to you all,

Nondy

Nondy,

You're going to get that kind of negativity in anything you do, anywhere you go....I get that alot locally, my company is not as well known as the other major competitor, who is well established around here, but I contribute all of that negativity (from consultants not customers) to the "big fish, small pond" attitude around my area. It's a matter of education - as far as the customers go - once they find out what you have, the prices, etc. - you have won them over! Don't worry about the other consultants - unfortunately, those kind of people are everywhere! Move on, you're better than that!!

With my former company that happened and the people who left (had been there for AGES) started their own DS company (I'm not even sure if it's still in existance now). Several consultants jumped ship, etc. etc. You know how it goes...

Case in point, corporate America is corporate America, just because our "piece" of it works differently doesn't mean it does up at the top. I've seen lots of people float from company to company like that. Most of them however, do believe in the company they work for...at least while they're working there and sometimes after. But if YOU were starting a DS business wouldn't YOU look to someone who'd already had success? Anyway, it doesn't excuse those ladies, but to their credit, they probably are wondering just what all the hype is about. I know in my experience while I didn't jump ship just then and when I did I didn't go to the "new" company, I did have to check it all out and see just what it was.
