View Full Version : Quick oDesk assignment for those getting started with oDesk and need feedback

I just finished a very quick easy and short assignment for a very nice lady on oDesk today. She asked if I wanted to do more for her and I said I would. I also said I knew some ladies(you guys) who were just getting started on oDesk and would love some easy work to get some feedback and work history started.
So to any of my ladies out there who are having problems getting started with odesk. If you want a quick assignment(literally takes around 5 min to do) she pays around $2.50 for the 5 min of work. Its a fixed price job, she will give you good feedback once you complete it to help get you started.
You must have at least passed your odesk readiness test to be able to be hired.
Just shoot me a PM, with your odesk name and Ill link the job assignment for you and pass your name on to her so she knows who to hire. Im not sure exactly how many she will hire, so it will be probably be on a first come first serve.
:)

Thanks for any feedback u can give me on this. Feel free to pm me also.

to all of you ladies starting out on Odesk, it is wonderful! I discovered it about a year and a half ago and have worked with several different people off of their. The key is just keep applying to as many jobs that you would like to do as possible. the more tests and skills certifications you do on there, the more jobs you can apply to. I went for a while not sure if it was going to work for me and then i landed my first VA job. I loved it. i eventually worked fro a couple more and am now working with someone from there on transcription. don't give up! take your tests when you can and keep on putting yourself out there it will be worth it in the end! good luck to you and hope you find your job soon! :)

Everyone who has PMed me so far, I have PMed you back. Please check your PMs as some of you I need more information from.
I know the buyer has tried to contact a lot of the people whose names I was already able to pass on. Please make sure your responding back to her in a timely manner even if its just to say your not interested anymore. As that is the professional and polite thing to do.
You dont want to say your interested in an assignment and then take several days to get back to the person whose trying to get a hold of you to hire you ;) Being able to communicate and respond quickly to potential buyers is a big factor in getting jobs on oDesk. If you wait a lot of times they will hire someone else who responded back to them and finished their interview sooner instead of waiting on you.

Are they paying you to complete surveys?? If so, thats a not so honest way to make money from affiliate survey programs.

from what I could tell when I did it, it wasnt through an affiliate survey program. Im not sure if shes testing her own pages or what. But I didnt have to sign up for any survey program, or go through any survey program. Its 1 survey that she sends you and she sees instantly when you do it.
The buyer has ALOT of feedback on oDesk and its all 5 star.. Like 15+ different ones. So I dont think theres anything dishonest about what shes doing, and shes paid everyone who did it for her instantly.
Considering she pays at least $2.50 a pop too, if it was an affiliate program I would like to know which one it is, if she can pay people $2.50+ to complete 1 survey thats 3 pages long, without signing up for any program and she still makes a profit lol, cause I aint ever seen any survey program like that, that didnt require you to go through 200 million pages and buy something at the end.
Either way you dont have to sign up for some survey program, its $2.50 for 5 min or less of work, paid directly though odesk, and you get great odesk Feedback. IMO its a win win.

I completed 3 surveys for her immediately after receipt of the emails and still have not been paid or gotten feedback. I gave her the benefit of the doubt yesterday since it was Father's Day but it is now Monday and the day is almost over

I would give her a bit more time before you get too upset.
You could also send her an email to check on the status. Just say something like; "I completed the surveys on (blank day) This is the email I used. I wanted to make sure you saw I had completed them and to see if you were ready to end the assignment or if you had more work for me"
Also remember your paid through odesk. oDesk doesnt send out emails when you are paid. So you may want to check your work reports to see if you have been paid. Also remember not everyone works normal business hours. It was around 8pm EST when I did the assignment and paid shortly after that.
She has given out 70+ assignments. 63 have been completed and paid so far and she has received 5 star feedback for all of them. Her odesk profile shows no reports of anyone not being paid. As I said, just check in with her again and give her time to answer you :)

Just an update after doing this, I was contacted by a buyer for a part time job. It's only 3 hours a day right now, but if it works out I can get more hours and money. And the buyer is very nice, he is understanding that I will be having a baby soon and I will be unavailable for a little bit of time after the baby is born and my hours are flexible. So again thank you for posting this.

She sent me 2 emails. One of them was like answering questions to get a free laptop. i did some of them but the next email didn't even have a link in it. I emailed her about it and she didn't answer me back then took me off her list. So I tried and got nothing :(.

I completed 3 for her and sent her the email to let her know that they had been completed. There was no delay. I didn't hear anything from her until I got a notification tonight that my application was declined. I don't understand what happened. I was really counting on that feedback:(

Sounds to me this is get paid to complete offers...Interesting, is this kind of "work" allowed on ODesk? Anyway, I might have to close this thread since the so called work is GPT.
For anyone who is currently working for her - be careful when you answer questions/complete "surveys", might get spammed.
By the way, I am pretty sure the "surveys" are not real legit surveys since real market research companies do not use odesk, lol.

If you felt she did uphold her end of the bargain feel free to report her to odesk. I can only speak from my experience which was just fine and the feedback left in her profile so far which is all good.
Did you make sure you were hired for the assignment before you started? If so then you should be able to leave feedback for her yourself in your assignments tab.
ciber if you would like to PM me, I will send her assignment listing to you and you can discuss it with odesk or even her. I dont try to start trouble with buyers who were good to me and willing to help others. My experience with her was awesome and everyone I talked to had no issues either. She's helped out a lot of people.
I dont know why most got paid and everything went fine and a few of you seem to have had issues, but if you have then your next step then should be to talk to odesk if you cant resolve it with the buyer.
I will hold off sending more names to her until you guys get things figured out.

Thats great to hear! Its not uncommon for some buyers to start out like this. One of my permanent assignments I started out only working 20 hours a week. After about a month I was bumped up to 40 hours a week. After approx 2 more months, I was then put in charge of my own department and team with their company. Then after about 8 months, my boss gave me full control of the business and all the departments/teams for my normal pay plus 5% of the profit the business makes. Which is a nice sum :)
Sounds like your getting a real good start with odesk, I hope good things for you for the future and continued success!

That is not necessary Lilly...and I certainly don't want to get you into trouble with any buyers at oDesk, after all, you are just trying to help fellow wahms here.
My point is the work sounds like paid offer/GPT such as answer a few questions to get a free laptop. As you probably know GPT related discussion is not allowed in this folder. And that's all.

Okay... here's the deal. I did work for her but after thinking about it.. I won't ever again.
The little tasks that you complete are NOT surveys. They are little tasks like on GPT sites. Signing up for stuff, clicking banners, etc. She sends you the instructions to do the task ~ You go to the website and click the banner or whatever the instructions say ~ You let her know you have finished and then you repeat the process. I personally don't have any problems with that part of the process... it's how she does it.
What she do is, she keeps all workers in the interview mode while they are working. So in actuality you are working but oDesk does not know you are working. She does not "accept" the worker until they have done the work. Basically she invites you to an interview, give you the instructions, you do the work, THEN after the work is done, she accepts you as hired and then close out the assignment as finished.
I believe she does this because if you have a problem with what she is doing, you can't complain because you are only in the interview mode. Also, if you have a problem with what she's doing, she can reject your application as if you are not qualified. In interview mode, it's like you are interviewing for the job.. so that means you don't have the job yet...However, she only accept you as the worker AFTER you have done all the work first. oDesk does not see you as the worker for the assignment because while your doing the work, it has not be really assigned to you yet. That is not right and is a very dishonest way of going about making money.
In my opinion, she is a border line scammer. If you do the work and she choose not to pay you, she don't have to...because you are in "interview mode". Whatever reasons it is why she keeps you in interview mode is certainly not in the best interest of the ones working... it is design to protect her.
Also she does not rate you until you rate her first. And of course, if you are trying to build a good profile, your going to rate her good so that she can rate you good. This is the reason why all her ratings are good :(:( She's making sure that she does not get bad ratings...
She's tweaking the system and it's very dishonest how she is doing it. I would stay away from this type of work because eventually, it's all going to catch up with her.

You should never do any work on odesk even if the buyer sends it to you until they actually hire you. If they send you the work and havent hired you yet, you should NEVER start working. You need to email the buyer and tell them to please start the assignment so you can begin work.
If they refuse then you dont do the work its as simple as that. That goes for this buyer or ANY other buyer. Even odesk tells you this. It might even be on the odesk readiness test you should have took before starting work.
The tasks she assigns seem to vary as well. I took a survey for my assignment. Another lady told me she filled out a questionnaire type about online schools for her assignment.
She fully hired me before I did any work for her(I never start working until the they do), she also left me my feedback first. However Im still not passing on anymore names to her until the 2 ladies who had issues get theirs resolved positively.
I have to say one more time, You should NEVER EVER start working on ANY assignment through odesk until you are FULLY hired and receive notification from odesk that the assignment has begun.

alright I emailed her this morning, since I was the one passing names along and asked her about some of the issues with payment.
She replied back to me and this is what she said:
"please send me the names. some didnt want to complete so i wont pay for no work and others just never let me know they were done.
send me the names of the completed ones and I will pay. I am true to my word."
So if you did complete the assignment and you still havent been paid, please let me know.
Once again Im NOT passing along any new names right now. This is ONLY for any of the ladies who have already did the assignment and did NOT get paid yet.

I think I was in interview mode still. This is probally the reason I had a problem. My work was viewing ads. I am new to Odesk and really was unsure about what I doing and didn't know that I was still in interview mode until now. Now some of it is all making sense. Odesk does get very confusing for new members.
