..at the lengths competing companies will go to win business over
another. I just read on another cosmetic company board that they think
progesterone in cosmetics is a cancer causing agent! smileys/smiley36.gif
A consultant was asking about progesterone because a competing
consultant had mentioned what a great product she had in Natural
Balancing Creams (gee I wonder what company she is with smileys/smiley32.gif).
The companie's response was that progesterone was found to be unsafe
and said something about it being a carcinogen and therefore, they
didn't use it in their products. You've got to be kidding me!
I am a firm believer that progesterone cream is the ONLY way to go. I
have been using it for 3 years and having gone off it for about a year
just recently went back on it. I am a totally different person.
Another consultant was asking if her products were natural because her
client had researched cosmetic chemicals while recovering from breast
cancer ( a survivor thank goodness) The consultant didn't know what all
the chemical ingredients listed on her products meant. Right
there, that should tell her that her product line is NOT natural in any
way, shape or form if the first ingredients listed are chemicals.
This is a company that I used to represent (not MK) and I was fairly
new to the group so hadn't really read many posts. Boy, am I glad I
looked at today's posts. I was shocked. I had already made the
decision a few months ago to give it up for other reasons, but this
just sealed the deal for me.
I hate it when companies do stuff like that. smileys/smiley7.gif

I am a breast cancer survivor and I'll NEVER stop using the Prolief! It's the main reason I'm involved with this company - A!
Have these people read the books by Dr. John R. Lee - "What Your Doctor may Not Tell you about Breast Cancer".

Hi -
I am a breat cancer survivor as well, and there are mixed opinions on using hormone-like treatments on women with hormone-positive cancers (like mine). I prefer to play it safe and avoid them.

They weren't being specific to breast cancer and progesterone, they
were referring to progesterone alone as being a carcinogen. It
was the cosmetic chemicals that they referred to for breast cancer.
Either way, they were company bashing(did not mention this company by
name, but they did mention MK by name) and I just don't agree with that
philosophy.

wow, that's just crazy. Where in the heck did they get the idea that progesterone is a carcinogen? silly. It doesn't sound like some of them do muc on educating themselves about their products. And I'm with you on the company bashing...not cool.

Well, from what I have read - it seems that using these creams could "turn on" cancer cells. Here is some more information regarding breast cancer and progesterone cream:

If progesterone were a carcinogen, every ovulating or pregnant woman's chances of developing cancer would be greatly increased. <!--

I may not be reading it right but whatI take from it is that they do not know that Progesterone causes it. They know progestin causes it but that is man made & even though it's supposed to be a synthetic of progesterone you can't compare the two in my mind simply b/c it is made made so not the same thing. Now I have heard that women who have had cancer shouldn't use hormone balancing creams. But I've never seen anything that says it causes cancer.
Also, knowing our company the way I do I am confident that if it was a possible carcinogen then it wouldn't be in a product of ours.

In my opinion, it is people who don't know what they are talking about
medically or otherwise, giving out misinformation to their
consultants. Not cool at all.

Hi -
I am not trying to stir up trouble and I am not saying progesterone causes cancer, but I also think women should do their own research and make their own informed decisions. I am sure it does help some women, but I also think women who are at risk for gynecological cancers may want to investigate further and ask their doctors before trying these treatments. The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, an institute of the National Institute of Health found that "Progesterone is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals...". You can read the whole thing here: http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/roc/eleventh/profiles/s152prog. pdf
We are exposed to so many hormones nowadays in the products we use and the foods we eat that it is scary! I wouldn't want to mess with my hormones even more - but that is just my opinion. By the way, chemicals can be natural, and just because something is natural doesn't make it good.
California Proposition 65 requires that products that contain ingredients that potentially could be harmful to carry a warning label. Progesterone is on that list.

Interesting......

Maureen, I totally agree. People should always do their research & also check with their doctors before using any products like this. IC's aren't experts in the medical field so we shouldn't be telling them one way or the other. smileys/smiley1.gif
And true, not all natural things are good for us. Just like not all man made things are bad for us. I just dob't think you can compare progestin & progeserone in that way since they are different. But that's just my opinion, I'm no expert.

This isn't necessarily true. Triclosan is a known carcinogenic
and is found in the herbal foot cream. The company
responded that in high concentrations triclosan is antibacterial, but
they use only enough to make it antimicrobial.

I have to agree with Maureen and being informed about what we use and
doing our own research. I would also go a little further to those
of you who may blindly believe what an unknowing upline or other
consultant may tell you - read read read! The back of the
phytoprolief and prolief bottles plainly state under the WARNING
section; and I quote: "...Studies have shown that the use of progesterone may pose a risk to your health, consult your physician..."</span></span>
If you wish to konw what stuides or what risks, I recommend emailing: productquestions@arbonne.com
Also, please understand that progesterone is natural, yes. But is
derived from different sources. MaureenT references a link above
which discusses progesterone derived from yams. I have read similar
discussions on the topic and progesterone is most commonly a derivative
of yams. However, the progesterone used in prolief/phytoprolief
is derived from soy - another topic of controversy. I'm not
saying you should or should not use these products - just be informed.
Blessings!

I have a consultant that loved the balancing cremes and had been told by her doctor that balancing cremes should not be taken by women with types of cancer, which she had. She still loves and belives in them but chooses not to use them now. People should always check with their doctors.

Hi -
Gee - Iwasn't trying to be argumentative -I tend to get very sensitive about this stuff. My breast cancer was ER+, meaning estrogen caused the cancer to grow. When you start doing a little bit of research, it can be overwhelming to see how our bodies are being exposed to so many different things that can mess you up!
Sorry if I sounded a little crazy.... http://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley5.gifhttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley29.gif

I'm pretty new to this board so please forgive me. Maureen - I
didn't mean to imply you were argumentative -I'm sorry if it seemed
that way smileys/smiley9.gif In my very unclear way,
I was advocating your research and I completely understand why you do
it! I lost my closest aunt (age 51) just a few short months ago
to a long battle with breast cancer and so I began researching some of
these thing myself. Like you, she wasn't to have any estrogen or
hormones (or soy!) I'm sorry if it sounded like I was criticizing you -
I didn't mean that at all. Your link is a great read. I noticed
that the article described progesterone derived from yams, which is the
more common approach. My intent was to point out that our progesterone
is derived from soy, another controversial ingredientsmileys/smiley1.gif
This is a great company and I'm glad to be a customer/consultant for
it. This is just one of those controversial products I steer
clear of talking with my clients about - too many other great
products to talke about.
I'm glad you're a survivor, Maureen. Sorry if it seemed like I was picking on you... I truly wasn't!

Hi -
No, I didn't think anyone implied I was argumentative - I just looked at my own post and when I reread it I thought I sounded a little crazed. I know you weren't criticizing me! I have my momentshttp://www.wahm.com/forum/smileys/smiley36.gif.
As you said, I don't think anyone should blindly believe what they are told. I always do some research myself so I can make my own decision.
I have discussed yam and soy with my oncologist and I made the decision to stay away from them after I did my own research and asked her opinion. I agree with you - too many other great products to talk about.
