View Full Version : Mostly selling Aromatherapy....questions

I have a question. I've had several orders, done about $2000 retail myself so far, and honestly have MOSTLY sold Aromatherapy products. I have YET to sell any Anti aging products from the 'back of the hand' demonstrations...only from people trying the samples. I don't know if it's the cost, the kinds of people trying the products, or what...but my MAIN sales have been Aromatherapy. I was wondering if this is common? And is there a way to focus and build my business more on the Aromatherapy end than the Anti aging? Or should I maybe showcase the other skin care lines (I won't start that now, because of the new products next month) It seems like the price is a factor in people not buying, but also a lot of people havea skincare line they already like. But almost EVERYONE uses shower gels, doesn't think anything of going to Bath and Body works type places and spending money...so perhaps that should be more the focus of my business. Ideas? Comments?

Heidi- congrats on your success! I do sell the set (mainly to w.s buyers) but in case it doesnt fit for them I always when I drop off the sample I give them a sachet of our bath salts- it is generally a great hit-b/c like you said people (myself included) love to buy great body lotions, etc. I always ask for a huge basket for christmas or other events thru out the year! I also cant wait until the new lines come out next month- will be happy to be able to have that option to those who are just not interested in the anti aging-

Hi Heidi~
I think that your market is just telling you what they like...go with it! I sell a LOT of supplements...I would say throw yourself into the aromatherapy products (I mean, really, they are AWESOME!) and work your business with it. Don't neglect the other products but if people want aromatherapy, give it to them :D

Thanks! I guess, I was just wondering if I should try to rework my class presentation to focus more on those and other products than the Anti Aging, as imho, that whole demonstration (trying on the back of hands) just doesn't seem to do much for people. It just seems so anti-climactic.

I have sold a lot of the aromatherapy too, mostly at my launch in Feb. My other big sellers were the RE9 eye creme (not the whole set - just this one, I think I have sold about 15 in 7 weeks), the sun lipsaver, the sun bronzerand the baby sunscreen. But to my surprise w/o even trying my biggest seller BY FAR is the CA system and then CA lotion & supplements alone without the rest of the system. Interesting enough, those that have bought the lipsaver have loved it so much most have called back to buy the sunscreens and more lipsavers.

Oh wow. I haven't tried the lipsaver. Sounds like maybe I should! :-)
My biggest seller by FAR is the SSS. I seem to sell at least two at each class.

Heidi,
Just curious. Do you use the RE9 products?

I do! I use them, along with the Normal to Dry although I only have the cleanser and freshener in that line, so I always use the R{ moisturizer and eye cream.

I think people might buy aromatherapy because it seems, well, safe. It doesn't require them to try something totally new on their face. In my very short experience, I've found that people are nervous about what they put on their face and the education they get in a class, while informative, still just isn't enough to gain their trust. So when I do group presentations, it seems like if people buy, they buy seemingly safe things. Every time I do a results appointment I sell a set. But when I do a show, I sell aromatherapy or maybe an eyeliner here or there. The things that seem more like fun and pampering products. That's why I'm looking for any insight on how to make a class more productive. How are people doing classes and collecting $350 in retail orders? I can't seem to make it happen. Help!
Sorry, I don't mean to take away from the spirit of the thread. But it does seem to me like aromatherapy might appear more safe to people and perhaps that's why they're buying more of it. Plus, if you focus on it during your presentation, people will naturally gravitate towards it. That can even be a subconscious thing for us, and something to think about.

Well, now you have me thinking! I may just have to take a second look at the Results presentation and see if I can incorporate more of that into my spa parties! I'm looking forward to hear responses from others smileys/smiley1.gif

I always get the RE9 on their face, not hand, at the parties. Then, people look around at each other and start noticing differences, especially if you use the eye cream and lift on ONE side only. I always make sure my hostess has sampled the re9 before the party, and I am trying to get samples to 2-3 guest before the party. It is so important to have someone excited about the skincare and the results other than you at the party. I am trying to treat my spa parties more like a huge results presentation, it is just w/ more than 1 person. The more people who have tried it before the party, the better. Now I just close the deal! I had a party the other night and made sure to send them all home w/ a re9 sample. The party closes on Monday so hopefully this will work!

I think it is a great idea to get the R{9 on the face instead of the hand. Even if just a couple people are willing to use the lift and eye creme on half their face, people will see a difference throughout the party. :)

When I have done classes, I have had mirrors at each place & 99% of the people use the whole set on their face. First I pass around wet washclothes (warmed in the microwave) to wash their face. Then I talk about the wash while they all pass it around and use it (I also put a couple of small cups of water out for them to dip in to help wash). Then I talk about the toner, why toner is important, etc as they pass around & use the toner. We do this with the whole set, it only takes about 10 minutes tops. We do the whole face, it just feels better. I averaged 2 RE9 set sales at parties with 5-6 people and total sales average $700.Typically everyone who orders signs up. Occasionally, someone will put their order on a friend's if they don't want to sign up.
I also have them wash with the sea salt scrub, followed by the cleansing gel when they arrive. I have the aromatherapy lotions there for folks to try but haven't sold much of them.
I agree that with the party system follow up & good customer service is key.

I do the lift on one eye, and the rest of the products save the wash on the back of the hand. Then we do the body serum/lotion on one arm. By the end of the class, they are all commenting about how much better that lifted side feels. I do like your idea about the whole system on the face, Kiana'sMom--I'm glad to hear it helps you sell more RE9 sets. Most of my RE9 sales come from the REsults sample drop-off one-on-ones and I will try your method!

I wanted to comment on this thread as I noticed this at my party last night. I sold lots of aromatherapy and several of the cosmetic items. The 2 ladies who purchased R*9 were the 2 ladies who had trial packs previous to the party!! They had both run out and wanted more!
I am going to order more of the samples and try my hardest to get everyone a sample before coming to my next party!!
