I have been lurking on this board for about a month and you girls are the reason I signed up with A******. I am riding the fence as to wanting to build a business or just use the discount to keep myself supplied. Part of the reason I am unsure about wanting to build a business is due to cost involved and things being pretty tight around here. My questions are: if you were to start your A****** business today, what would you consider the must have essentials? Isigned up under my MIL and she is not a business builder herself, so she is not very helpful in answering any of my questions. When I signed up, I spent about $350 and purchased one RE9 set. I am contemplating purchasing another set so I have two to build with, but my upline wants me to buy 4, 6 or 8 - I think that may be a little much. Anythoughts appreciated! Also, what are some of the smaller, simpler things that you did to get your business up and running? Just curious! Thanks and thanks for your posts!!

Hi Michelle~
I would NOT recommend buying several RE* sets. A****is starting to get away from that method of doin this business. I would recommend investing in some business aids...some samples, catalogues.
I would invest ONLY what you can. You don't have to purchase $1000 of product up front to make this business work!

I agree with Cindi- I have a new BB(she did not have enough extra money to buy 4 or more kits but really wanted to do the biz)who is purchasing the sample packs (which look very professional) and putting them in the gold totes- also putting in the R{9 instruction card that has been laminated- and a few other tidbits- this way she is guaranteed to get back with whomever she lends it out to-- sometimes when you just give out the sample pack it is easy to just let it slide or wait too long to get back with the person!
Get a few catalogues, some of the other samples- which ever appeals to you- I try to leave a mens sample at the same time I leave the R{ sample- and if there are any small children or if I know they have problems with their skin- I also leave some baby samples- this way you cover the whole family!

Leah,
Those are some great ideas! I too have some potential team mates that don't have the initial start up money for the multiple sets and I was trying to figure out another way to do it. How much longer do you think it would take for them to be promoted out to district and what about the team, which I would assume they would duplicate her and the time it takes to get promted would also be longer. Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Metoo- it will obviously take her longer! She didnt start with hardly any volume - she did purchase her own set to use- I have told her it is imperative that she work a little harder at first- she will have to sell at least 4-5 kits to kind of start where those who buy the 4-6 kits at first start at! That will give her some money right now or if she signs them all up as wholesalers then the volume will be there but only 4% on her override until she makes dm- also I have heard that generally how you sign up ( number of kits) is how most of your team does as well- so I told her that she has to be prepared for this to happen as well! But I think if you want if bad enough and work it a little harder it can be done!
Gosh if she sells 10 kits a month- she can still make dm in the 3 months! but she will also have to get those samples moving alot- and reinvest in the samples-
I know a couple of consultants and we try to go in together and buy bulk each month on something and this is a great way to save money- she also knows that if she is getting out there I will help her- she can "buy" some of my samples or borrow and replace when she gets some in-

I would not discourage someone who can afford to buy 2 kits from doing so. I like having an extra on hand to give someone when they place their order instead of them having to wait a week or so to get theirs. They are already fired up & excited, why not build on that and provide them with the set & let them replace yours when the order arrives?
I am not saying that those who don't will not succeed, I am simply saying that if they can, encourage them to do so. Obviously we all have different start up capabilities and should work from that. WhenI started, I was unable to invest more than $100. I have built my producttesters (for classes)& RE9 sets from $100 for $20 and PWP offers. It takes work & creative ordering/buying but one has to do what one has to do. I would never turn away someone who wants to sign up for simply the $29 (I have a consultant who has never ordered aside from the sign up fee but when she is ready to go,I am here to help)and on the flip sideI would never discourage someone from investing what they are comfortable with if they wanted multiple sets.Edited by: Kiana's Mom

I just wanted to put this out there:
I never purchased the 4-8 sets when I signed up. I never used the results approach. I made DM in 2 months. Anything is possible if you work at it.

Cindi,
What do you do instead of the results approach, if you don't mind. Also, what did you mean in your statement that A****** is getting away from that method of doing business? Thanks and have a wonderful day! :)

I was wondering as well how you got that we are getting away from the results approach? Especially since they came out with the results set (4 kits with bags and samples)to purchase not all that long ago.
When I originally got started I only purchased 1 kit, after about a week I purchased 3 more. I had too many people that were so anxious to try it that I wanted to get the momentum going right away. I would definatly not discourage someone from buying only 1 kit if that is all they can afford, but definatly tell them the power of more.
Just my $.02

I just wanted to clarify that I didn't say that A- is going away from the RESULTS approach...however, they are going away from dropping off KITS. They have decided that you are supposed to use SAMPLES in the results approach now. The kits pose the risk of being contaminated and they do not want to be held responsible for that. Someone posted about it a while back on here...they had talked to someone at A- and they told them that they are discouraging the use of kits now and want consultants to only use samples for the results approach. Hope that makes sense. :)

Metoo,
I have to jump in to say that Iinvested very little. I started in Jan. and made district last month (2months). I am on my way to first step area this month. Our team holds spa parties, and you keep your business running by booking offof each party. We do foot a soak. This way you meet between 5-15 people at each party x's 6-12 parties a month. You will meet anywhere from 30-100 new people each month in which you can share your business. I have met ALL my business builders from parties. I know have 4 serious BB. It does work.
Invest what you can. You won't be sorry you started this business unless you quit!smileys/smiley2.gif
Good Luck, Heidi

I started off with my $100 order, then the next month I did an RSVP with a couple other friends/ family members. It was 6 months after that before I decided to make a go of the business.
I made dm in two months as well, just doing classes. I had catalogs, and did the salt scrub and used my own RE9 set for the back of the hand tester at the classes. I never did the results approach. Of course I am still sitting at dm because I am very sporadic in my efforts, life keeps getting in the way.
Ifound some good BBs and promoted out two DMs since then. I had one person invest in 6 sets, but not do anything with them. I can't imagine spending that kind of money and not working my tail off to recoup it.
anyway, you never know who will take off and who won't.

For me, personally, I recommend 2 sets. One that can go out as a tester, whether you have them use that set, or just demo it in front of them so they can see how much to use, or use it in classes on the back of the hand. Then I keep one set whole. So that if someone tries it and loves, like they always do, I can give them that set. When the order comes in, it replenishes my whole set.
I've tried a couple classes and foot spas, but the sales were always low. Or, they would result in a results appointment and I'd end up opening an account for them anyway to get the RE9 set.
I feel like I'm still trying to figure out the best way for me to be doing this.
