Hi,

It has been a long time since I visited the forum, good to be back, recently the company I worked for
sent our jobs overseas, I would love to work an online job, my question is. If you don't have contract
phone service, can companies send calls through the computer, say I got a customer care job.

I don't know if my computer has the capability, but I thought I heard of some computers being able
to do that.

Yes, depending on how your computer is equipped, it is possible to get calls through Skype or you can buy Magic Jack, but if you are asking if companies will hire you to take calls for them using that type of phone service, usually the answer is no because it is not the best for clarity and reliability. Usually they will state that part of the requirement is to have a land line. However, some companies will supply that for you.

Hope that helps.

Skype is one of the best that I know of. I use it and it is exceptionally clear. If someone has skye too you can talk to them free!

I've recently started tutoring online and I hear Skype is an awesome (though sometimes unnecessary) advancement. Skype is a video calling thing isn't it? Can you use Skype with just a microphone? Otherwise, how will you live out your dream of working from home in your PJ's? There are some other online voice communication ideas I got from the Tutorfi tutoring business coaching site. The technology they support you with is interesting and could possibly work for non-tutoring businesses as well. They use a whiteboard and microphone. Who else out there knows anything about what whiteboard and voice communication systems are available? Respectfully, JoLynn Colbert

Yes, it is possible. You can use Skype or even Yahoo! Messenger. You just probably need a mic and speakers or a headset with both.

The job I'm doing right now doesn't require a landline. All you do is download an online phone system (my company sent us the link before training) & you will need a USB headset. I'm assuming other companies that dont' require a landline have similar software.

Just download Skype for your phone or for your computer, it is our main communication line between my clients and team mates.
