Sorry, guys. In all my time here, I don't recall the last time a reputable VA firm was mentioned. I do see subcontractor positions come up on a pretty consistent basis through my Insider membership. If you are serious about becoming a VA, I would highly recommend it. You get access to a lot of other benefits in addition to their job board. There's a link in my siggy if you want to learn more about it (Kick Start Your VA Biz).
The rate of pay with those I see there is also a lot higher than some of the "supposed" positions I run across on the web.

I'm just starting to research starting a VA business. It would be a natural for me, I think, cause I'm online researching things all the time. And I enjoy finding good, reliable ideas to pass on to other. I'm following your suggestions. Thanks.

Hi Sydnee-
Kick Start Your VA Biz looks like it has potential, but I have a question. I've been thinking about getting started with VA work, but I've been getting a bit discouraged. I spend a lot of time on the Warrior Forum, where there are a bunch of threads about outsourcing to the Philippines or India, and everyone seems to be raving about the full-time VA they hired for $200/month (and those same people generally aren't willing to pay more than $3 for a 500-word article). If I do spend the money to join your program, will I actually find jobs that pay reasonable rates for someone based in the U.S.?
Thanks for your help!
Jan

Hi, Jan. In all the time I have been an Insider, I have only recall seeing one RFP requesting 3rd-world rates. That was this last week and I can only assume it was prompted from a product launch by an Internet Marketer who is encouraging this somewhat unrealistic idea of "full-time employees for less than $300/month."
I have acquired several clients through the program at typical U.S. VA rates.

You can always check out outsourcing sites such as Elance, oDesk or Rentacoder.. there are lots of VA openings there.

If you are looking for connections, education resources, free business contracts, and pretty much all the support you need for being a VA then you should join this forum. When I first got started I joined this forum and was amazed at all the info I learned, how friendly everyone was, the sub contracting jobs offered(may not be $25 or more an hour but $10 hr is usually the lowest), and more. I thought there would be so much competition and everything but in actuality it was the opposite.

That's a big rate. Not like my work today i work for $75 a week.
I think that work is so great rather than mine.

I've done projects for Virtual Office Temps, Rentacoder and Elance. You simply must be willing to work for less money in the beginning until you get some projects under your belt. There is too much competition out there for too few jobs.
You also need to niche your offerings. Just being a basic/general virtual assistant is probably not enough. Once I started to market myself in my speciality area (which is accounting and financial database programming, management and administration), then I started to not only demand a higher salary but I also received more job offers.
I have just recently started to look for a full time / long term gig as I have mostly only done short term projects at this point. They are hard to find but they do exist! You just need to make sure that you get involved with the right organizations that can help you.
virtualassistantjobs.com gives you a free resume web site so that is a great way to get yourself out there. Also, elance allows you to market yourself and your profile after you've been rated by a couple of projects. Like I said - you might not make the biggest money at first but at least you'll have a fighting chance to get your career going!
I hope this helps!

Hiring VAs from the Philippines or India does not really cost as high as hiring one from USA. I am Filipino too and a lot of us are willing to work professionally for a $200-$300 a month salary.
In between Philippines and India, I think we in the Philippines got more advantages...:D
