I started scoring delaware grade 8 math yesterday. I worked for an hour today, took a break and came back. I dont see any "score student response". I cant score. What does that mean?
BTW, anyone else scoring delaware 8 th grade math?
Thanks.

I am scoring the 7th grade math, and I wondered the same thing, because I scored one response this morning and then the "no items available" message popped up. Then I checked out the main page after you login. There is a message there about scoring times - it says the ePEN will not be available for scoring on the weekends, which I didn't realize. It's odd because I think every other project I've done had work for the weekends. Maybe you were able to get some of what was left in the system from the week? I definitely was looking forward to some hours this weekend, I guess I'll be forced to relax instead. :)

I also was under the impression that scoring would be available on the weekends. For one thing, it clearly states that in the offer email. Secondly, when I added my hours in the scheduling tool, the tool included the weekends.

I scored for them last year and worked the weekends. The site said Mon-Fri last year too, and I remember when I asked about that I was told that the emails take precedence over what the site says. They told me that the site is used for all of their scoring and some projects have weekend work and some don't. They said if the offer indicates weekends, then I could assume that the project allows for scoring on the weekend regardless of what the site says.

Maybe the same thing isn't true this year. SIGH..... I wish I had known... I actually cancelled some things this weekend because I had committed to working nearly a full day both Saturday and Sunday with the scoring.

I'll keep checking... If anyone notices that papers have been loaded, please post!

I got on this morning and had the "no more work" message. I called in, and they said there was a glitch and would be calling me back to let me know when it was good to go. I just tried it again (4:40 CST) and there's not even an option to score (or calibrate for that matter). So I called in again - apparently they are having problems all across the board with the DE scoring, and are trying to keep everyone out of the system so they can work on it. Hopefully we should have access this evening. *sigh*

Oh wow!!I called them 1/2 hr before you and the lady said that they are loading and we will be able to score in 15 minutes. Its been an hr and I still cant score. Guess we will have to check in often.

Please post if you are able to get work - I'll do the same. It's 7:43 pm CST and I still have no option for calibration or scoring. It seems like there has been nothing but problem after problem this season with scoring. It's so frustrating when you plan your days and money situation around this work, only to have these problems. I'm so thankful to have multiple eggs. Ok, grumbling done! :)

WAHNM

Wow, I don't know whether to be angry or thankful. (Maybe both?) I just went back in, and still had no option to calibrate or score. I clicked on training just to see what was there - lo and behold, more training for a new set of scoring. For all I know, that's been sitting there all day. I'm upset that I have called twice, and no one thought to tell me to check that - I thought we got one set of scoring and that's what we would have for the entire project. Maybe this will help someone else out. Off to work, finally!

Thanks WAHNM. Good find.Who would know that they will put us in another workgroup?? They should have sent us an email or something. This is just irresponsible. We just wasted an entire day almost doing nothing. I saw your post this morning and I have to leave to work now. I will come back and take the training and hopefully get to score.
Thanks again. Keep posting your status. Its good that we have a thread here to help out each other..

When I got done with training last night and did the qualifications, I was all set to do about an hour's worth of work, and guess what happened - no more work available!! I have no idea what's going on. I'm hoping in 20 min when the window opens there will be work. I'm beyond irritated at this point - hopefully by the time you log on there won't be any problems. Crossing fingers I can get a 10 hour day in today.

All I have been doing is take the training and when I start to score I run out of responses.

From what I can gather, they only loaded the Wkgrp2 training yesterday and did not load the Wkgrp2 papers until this morning. We finished up Wkgrp1 about mid-day yesterday...took them a couple hours to get the training loaded and it looks like they waited until today to get the papers loaded.

I may be wrong, but I believe that the order of things (i.e., training/practice/qualification/calibration) is covered in one of the training modules. (i.e., the steps have to be completed in order and you can't see an option for the next step until the prior steps have completed).

Hope this helps...

I started scoring item 61 about 3 hours ago and have not run out of work. Initially, I had the calibration...once I completed that i was able to see the practice papers. I completed the training last night.

I passed Qualification for WKGRP3 last night and am just logging in for the first time today. And the queue is also empty for me too. Since I know we won't do weekend work, I am going to try to call to see if i can find out if we're done for the weekend...that way I won't have to spend time continuing to check.

Has anyone done any scoring for WKGRP3 today?

after being on the phone for almost 45 minutes, my account was fixed. I talked to 2 person and they just kept saying log out and log in.Then called another person and he made some changes to my account and I could start scoring..I wasted 1 day doing nothing..I could get 2 hr of scoring yesterday.

I am wondering if I could charge the time I was on the phone with them.I will have to read their timesheet instructions.

higgy
04-20-2010, 04:38 AM
I would be surprised if you could charge that time. Are you filling out timesheets? I am not... I thought it was being automatically completed based on being logged in and scoring.

Please let me know if you find that you can charge that time. That info would be helpful for my future reference.

I think it varies since it's self-paced. And it depends on which tests you will be scoring for. I just know that in my case, the training never took as long as they said it would (not even half as long). I am scoring Math. I do know that if this is your first time scoring with them, the training will take a bit longer since there is some general training that you have to do in addition to any specialized training for the particular tests you will be scoring. Subsequent training will take less time since they won't make you repeat the general training.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

That's a great question and I'd love to know that as well. I've been fortunate this year and have been offered 4 projects so far. I have no idea what their selection process is.

Thanks higgy! I didn't realize you'd responded. Not sure why I didn't get an email notification. Hmmm well I am supposed to fill out my timesheet/schedule and they say not to include training hours. Tough to know how much extra time I will have. Do you know if you don't schedule hours on certain days but end up having time can you still score even if you didn't submit that day for working?

higgy
05-07-2010, 04:14 AM
The hours that you schedule in the training tool are for their planning purposes only - i.e., so that they have an idea of when scoring will be done and so they know they can be done by their deadlines. You don't have to stick to it exactly as you put in - i.e., you can work more or less hours on any given day than what you have put into the scheduling tool. Of course, you want to be as accurate as you can. Given how they use the tool, it's probably better to under-estimate than over-estimate... you can just imagine what would happen if everyone entered 20 hours in the tool but only worked 10 hours!

Makes sense Higgy. I am planning to work as much as possible. I'm finishing up substitute teaching next week (I'm on a long-term right now) and I don't have any work lined up for the summer, nor a teaching job for the fall. So I figure I'll work as much as I can for Pearson during this assignment and hopefully be able to start a job in June. But I didn't want to overschedule and then miss an hour because I had an interview or something like that and then get in trouble. I am excited. I wish that I could just do the training now and get started with the assignment.

Anyone have any assignments lined up past May? Or will scoring not really start again until the next school year?

Hi, I am new to this forum and I came across this site while searching about Pearson scoring online...Can some one give me more info regarding the scoring job? How does it work? I have a Math degree and if I opt for Math scoring, how does it work? Will they send the questions and the answer keys to score the papers online? Or do we need to find the answers first and then do the scoring?

How about the pay for the scoring job? Is the flexible online work or the center work more comfortable? I do not have any experience with this kind of scoring...Please help me to clear these doubts...I would really appreciate your help........:)

Hi. I've been with Pearson for a couple years. They will provide you with training and a Rubric, so you do not have to look up the answers yourself. These are standardized tests and they have a specific type of answer they are looking for. They also have the notion of partial credit. All of this is detailed in the rubric/scoring guide. The pay varies from project to project and they also have bonuses for high quality. I am unfamiliar with the scoring center since I only work from home. The work is seasonal and shouldn't be counted on for full-time income.

Also note that it can take a LONG time to get on with them once you apply. I heard from them a year after applying...others have gone 2 years or longer. There may be some who didn't have to wait that long, but I'm not aware of any (perhaps they can post here).

If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me.

Good luck!
