Good Morning! I will be getting back into the Real Estate business soon. I'm saving for school. My question is who do you consider to be the heavy hitters and major players in the industry? Back in the day when I had my license it was people like Danielle Kennedy and Tom Hopkins. I'd like to get a few books but would like to make sure I get information that is current. I love reading books about how people started out and became super successful. Thanks for any info.

Good question, Lora. Honestly, I don't know that there is a single (or even a small handful) heavy hitter in the industry right now. It seems that those who are big names aren't even practicing real estate actively. They make their money from motivating, speaking, teaching, writing, etc. So while they may have the words to really light a fire under your rear, they may not know the ins and outs of today's market. Just my opinion...
Anyways, there seems to be a lot of great info out there, all over the internet. There are plenty of agents making a hefty living from r.e. and don't even have time to write about it! Or, they hire a ghostwriter to whip something up for them.
One book I liked was Millionaire Real Estate Agent. That book has q&a's with a lot of agents - tons of ideas and whatnot packed in one book.

Tom Ferry and Brian Buffini are great. I attended a two-day coaching retreat with Buffini last week and LOVED it. You'll find lots of free videos from both if you hunt around a little online.

I think it depends on what you want to concentrate on i.e. residential or commercial market, and what you want to do in the market.
I am working in a course that teaches you to fund commercial through direct lenders. Rather than fumble around with hoping to learn about it, and try to find the lenders, the course totally teaches you what you need to know to find customers that need funding and match them with available funding.
There are students funding millions of dollars for commercial when the banks are not actively going for it.
So the area you want to work in is wide open and then you can decide who to learn more from. There is so much information on the web, many honest people that review courses and only back those that are worth the while.

You're probably better off searching online, you can find a lot of info in forums, just type in real estate investing forum and you should find some good results. Also if you check out REIA groups (again, google your city REIA)...many of these REIA investment groups have speakers come in and you can learn very quickly. There's several "heavy hitters" though, to answer your question. There's:
Ron Legrand Ron Legrand (http://bit.ly/azD8sb)
Larry Goins has a real nice $1 course at Larry Goins (http://bit.ly/bWI7TR)
DC Fawcett is a short sale heavy hitter Short Sales, Property foreclosures, free foreclosures (http://bit.ly/cqOrH0)
If you're into Private Money, Alan Cowgill is the guy Private Lending Made Easy (http://bit.ly/9iTjM5)
And I found a nice course from a "mom" too - Rich Mom Real Estate Investing Success System by Rich Mom, Savannah Ross (http://bit.ly/c1tYhg)
