I was thinking and am just curious as to how people would answer. Would or could you sell for a candle company that was really good company; but you just don't love the product?

Nope, I couldn't. I'm not that good of an actor!

Nope - when you get down to it, your customers do not care as much about the company as they do the products.... your customers deal with you and the products...

As direct sales reps, we need to provide the great customer service and the first thing to do that is to offer products you love and that others love as well

:) IMO

No! You really have to love what you are selling - you can only fake it to a point......

I had that experience with some jewelry I once sold. Great company, but I wasn't in love with the products.

Very thankful though for GC, because I - and apparently my customers really love the product line!

No I couldn't, and why would you want to. You have to love the products you sell and want to use them yourself. Could you sell for a food company that was a great company but the food was lousy? I doubt it.

I could never do that. I believe that to sell, and sell well, your enthusiasm has to be behind a product 110%.

Besides, what good do would it do to sell a product that had no chance of repeat business, having to refund unhappy customers (therefore not making any money anyway), and having all your friends talk about you behind your back about the cruddy products you goaded them into buying.

Just my two cents ;)

I couldn't. I have enough trouble directly selling a product I love! LOL I am by no means a natural sales person, and I am having to learn more on how to be good at direct sales. I would have no problem selling a product I love if I was in a store though, as long as it was not high pressured sales. I don't have any trouble at craft shows either or parties for the most part except for the recruiting part or the booking part and maybe upselling. Approaching people to sell something is much harder for me than when they come to me looking.

I have known some natural sales people that can sell anything even if they are not crazy about it. They may sound like they are crazy about it but I know they are not. That just rubs me the wrong way.

I know honestly that I would not be able to sell something that I didn't believe in. I am a terrible liar! Could I do it and be successful? I probably could; though I wouldn't like myself very much in doing so.

I sold a product before my current one that was a great product, I just didn't love it. I was successful with it, but I still never felt like I "fit in". I don't know....when I would go to convention and meetings, I just felt like "what am I doing here?" And I would tell people that I didn't feel like I fit in and they would just shrug it off and say "Oh you're being ridiculous!" But it was true and I think it was because I wasn't "in love" with the product. I left and couldn't be happier with my decision!
So no...I couldn't do it.

I could not sell a product I did not love, but I know their are tons of people who are in DS just to recruite and dont even use the products. It depends in what you are in it for. I love and use my products.

No. Too many consultants out there lie about the quality of the products just to make a quick buck. Fortunately, it eventually comes back and bites them in the @ss and their recruits start falling off from under them. Word gets out, eventually, about the poor quality products and people will stay away from them.

In the past few days, I've received emails about several consultants that left a certain company due to the poor quality of the products. If you can't stand behind your product, your customers will feel cheated and avoid you like the plague. It amazes me how many unscrupulous reps out there know full well that their product sucks but they still try to pass them off as just 'awesome'.

No I personally could not, that is sort of what happened with my last company, I loved the company, the owners, my upline and everyone I had meet in the company but wasn't overly thrilled with the products and had some customer complaints about them, so my heart wasn't in it and I had find something else.

Nope. I don't think you can fake genuine excitement. People can tell
when you really love your product.

Well, I can sell certain scents that I don't like :D but that's because other people do like them.

I'm a little too honest sometimes and don't care if I lose a sale if I think a product isn't worth it. For instance, with Avon there was a product that I had read other reps. giving bad reviews on and a customer of mine wanted to buy one. I told her I wouldn't recommend it & actually lost the sale, but I believe in the end increased my customer's confidence that I wasn't there to just make money.

Krista,

That is too funny; yet is so very true about selling a scent you personally don't like! Still amazes me that there was one scent (now discounted) I could not stand and people are still looking for it! I could have sold a ton of them had I ordered any! Of course, I didn't!

Honesty is a good thing! Good for you sticking with your values and beliefs! Sales, incentives and money mean nothing if not done and earned with honesty and integrity! At least, that's how I feel about it!

Thanks to everyone that has posted! Feel free to keep them coming!
