Hello ladies!!
<?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I just got my molds and I melted 1 and a half vanilla votives. I made 20 Stars and 4 Thank You Squares. They are so cute!! The stars are small enough to still send as samples and the thank you squares will be cute to put in customer orders.

Here is a link to the molds

The idea of the samples from molds really inspired me, so I went to our local party store this morning.

Their candy mold selection was very skimpy, but I was *determined* to
get some samples made today, so I ended up buying a mold that had very
tiny baby shower theme things, lol. It was the ONLY mold they had left
that was small enough to do samples.

The mold has some VERY cute teddy bears, so I'm going to make a bunch
of those. The other things on the mold (baby bottle, rattle, etc.)
aren't that easy to make out what they are, so I'm going to use them
too. I figure people are going to be more interested in how they SMELL
than exactly what they look like.

I'm on my way to the kitchen now to try making a few...

Hi Becky,

Well you just did it for me! I am getting up from this computer and headed to Michael's up the street. I want to make some sample mold too.

Thanks Cinnamon for the idea! It is great!

Many Blessings,

This is an awesome idea! Do you just melt the votives on the stove in a pan or what? Please let me know, I want to do it too :-)

Cinnamon, thank you for the link to get the molds! I'm going to go see
what their selection is after I finish this. I take it you received
good service from this seller?

I just finished making a bunch of samples. It didn't take all that
long. I had a bit of trial and error as I tried to figure out the best
way to do this.

At first I tried melting the candles in a tuna fish can set into a pan
of water. My dh took a pair of pliers and formed a pour "spout" for me
on the tuna can. That worked ok, but it didn't have a handle, so I was
either lifting the can from the water with a pair of pliers, or one of
my garden gloves, lol.

What worked even better was a tiny little metal tea pot thing my dh had
in his shop. It was short and squat, had a nice pour spout and a good
handle, and I can leave my wax in it until I need to make more samples.

I melted four votives and got 63 tiny samples from them. I've already
bagged them up, and they'll be ready to go when I get the brochures I
ordered last night.

Can't wait to get these out to people!

Thanks for the great ideas. smileys/smiley32.gif

I use the empty plastic containers from take out. Cut the votives into small pieces to melt faster & put in water in a pan.

Be careful & watch them thou! I've burned all the water out of the pan & wax got all over cause I went away & started working on my computer & forgot about them.

You can squeeze the plastic to pour melted wax into mold.

Doreen, thanks for this great tip! I used a tuna can because I thought plastic wouldn't take the heat, but now that I know...

Natalie, did you get a chance to make any? How'd they turn out?

Mother of Four, yes, I just chopped up the votives, threw them into my
tuna can, and set it into a shallow pan of water on low heat. (I can't
believe how EASY it is to pull the wicks out of these, and to chop up
the candles.)

PS While I was chopping my Sweet Orange & Chili Pepper ones, I was
thinking that they DID smell good enough to want to take a bite! smileys/smiley36.gif

Ruth, those sound like really fun and appropriate choices for the coming season!

It's hard to think about seashells and flip flops here right now---it's only 20 degrees! smileys/smiley36.gif

You'll have to let us know how your samples turn out.

You ladies want ccccccold?

It's -10c and snowing right now here in Alberta. The windchill has us down to -15c. Sorry but I don't know how to convert that to Farenheit.smileys/smiley2.gif

IF I can get the car for an hour or two today, I just may take a trip to Michaels and look around at the candy molds. We also have a PM Hobbycraft here which is huge. They might have some molds too.

I made these out of the lolipop size candy molds and I did little teddy bears out of baby powder for the girls and creme brulee for the boys and then I bought little organza bags and put them eigther in pink or blue organza bags and I thought that would be a cute melt for baby showers. Now I think my next project is to get the small candy molds, get a container that I found at hobby lobby that looks like a small envelope that you can see through and then I am going to make the small things like baby booties or wedding bells and put 2 or 3 in the envelope and sell them as shower favors. What do ya'll think?

Heather,
just so you know we're not allowed to redo a company product and sell it from what I hear. They said we can't make our own tarts (which is what the candy mold pieces would be) and sell them. You might want to check with the company first just so nothing is said. I just thought I would let ya know that's what I hear but maybe others on here can let you know also if this info is correct. It does sound like a good idea though.

Tammy,

Thank you for the information. I certianly wouldn't want to get in trouble by the company! How do people do the sachets and the bears then? Are we not allowed to do those eigther? Thanks for the info. Especially before I made anymore of them!smileys/smiley1.gif

Heather,
I am not really sure how that works with the sachets and the bears. I think the reason is because with the sachets and the bears the people that buy those are not using them to "burn" in a different way than the company intended, where with the candle mold samples those are being melted and that is not something the company has made. This is my understanding on this subject but I do wish there was a section in the back office that addressed this and other craft questions as they come up. I know a lot of distributors have questions on this subject. I would just contact headquarters to make sure.

What I did with the sachets, is - I am selling the sachet bags that I sew myself. Inside I place a "scent sample" just as if I am giving the customer a scent sample anyway. The thing that I didn't do with my first "batch" that I plan to do with others- is include my business card inside of the bag smileys/smiley2.gif

Has anyone compared the samples side by side mold vs shavings to see if they are equally as strong??

I may try this too - with the powder I feel like a drug dealer - lol! Especially if anyone were to look into my window when I have my "supplies" inbigger ziplock bags and all spead out on the tablesmileys/smiley36.gif
