Considering renting a booth at a once a month flea market. Would anybody care to share their experiences good or bad? What types of items have you noticed are good sellers? Do you think self defense items would go over well? Thanks.

Shop there first.....
Talk to other dealers... are they making money? Are there enough customers?
Look at what is for sale now, watch what people are buying.
I sell at small church/school craft shows and average $300 - $300 daily selling unique items
Spend time looking for products to sell. I wanted to sell an item once that searching found me a
wholesale price at $1.50 each. I didn't buy, but kept searching and found the same item for .75 each
demo items can sell well... splat toys for example

I do Farmers Markets in summer - I carry Watkins products (everyone remembers them, and scoops them up, because no one seems to have an associate!) I also make crafts, and bake biscotti with the Watkins ingredients.
I make $300 every weekend (I do one on Sat and Sun)
I also do table sales, trade shows.

Thanks for the replies! I think I will visit this month and see what all people are selling before I decide.
Lori, that's funny that you sell Watkins. There is always a Watkins booth at our flea markets and I always have to buy something! I love their products! :)

Seeeeee? It's true! lol..
I always have the most popular products on hand, but I take orders at markets too. EVERYONE seems to remember it...and if they don't, they hear the people who do RAVING, and end up wanting. I hardly have to do any selling at all. ;)

We have done very well over the years selling small toys in the $1-$3 range and here is why: Adults have impulse control when it comes to shopping, but children must buy something/anything. Adults always bring children to the flea market and if something is purchased for a child...it will be in the $1-$3 range. A surprising amount of parents will give their kids a few bucks to spend on flea market visits - Cha Ching!

Thanks Lorie. I'm just seeing this, but I think small toys might be something that would go over well there. I am going to look into this :)

I had a spot in an indoor flea market and I did very well with it. The store was opened six days a week. People picked their items and took them to the cashier. I only paid about $50/mo. I sold a lot of small furniture pieces, cookware and small appliances.
Having the indoor flea market helped me a lot from having to handle money; only my check at the end of the month. It also helped me in that I didn't have to pack and unpack every weekend.

I did flea markets years ago. I did okay. I think if you have a great product at a great price and as long as the market has shoppers, you can be successful. It is worth a try.

In my area natural products do very well, and any item or service related to hispanic celebrations do good (christening, quinceañeras, etc.), research your area, visit you local market.
