My party is 4/4...........I am having a Silpada Jewelry party. Curretnly I have 45 on my list to invite....could go up a few more. I know that not all of these people will show up. My question is:
I want to have refreshments on hand. Do I go ahead and plan for say 50?
I want very simple refreshments/drinks. Do I buy 2 liter bottles of pop and just have cups and ice so they can serve themselves?
Should I just do a cracker/meat/cheese tray?
Suggestions????

I remember reading somewhere that about1/3 of the people you invite generallyshow up for your party. I wouldn't buy too much...you really do not want people to focus more on the food than the jewelry :)
I wish you the best of luck!! Have fun!Edited by: silverlady

I always suggest my hostesses have something salty and something sweet. Don't go overboard and tire yourself out. Have the refreshments nearby the jewelry. It's all about the hostess having fun. If you have fun so will your guests. Wear the jewelry and layer, the more you wear the more your guests will try on and buy. Invite as many as possible, noone is offended by being invited. I would say that a third of those invited are going to show. When I had my starter show I invited 54 and 18 showed with 6 outside orders. Good luck!!

First, personally invite them. Those you personally invite will most likely come over those who just get an invite. An invite in the mail won't make it to half of its audience--it may get lost, stuck in another piece of mail, or put in a pile.
The personal invite will also give you an idea of how many people can come. If you want, encourage them to invite friends. It also gives you the opportunity to share catalogs.
Realistically, 50% won't come right off the bat, it's just a bad date or they are not interested. And then 1/2 of those will have something come up or get sick, forget, etc.. So invite 40, expect 10.
Now, you can defeat these odds by:
Personally inviting them and getting a committment. And then, doing a reminder call a day or 2 before. Not just a "I'm having a party next week, mark your calendar", but a "I'm having a jewelry party and I think you will love this stuff. There is one piece that I can see you wearing daily! Can I mark you down as a yes?"
My biggest attendance partyhad invited40 people, and 20 came. She did the personal invite, invite a friend, and reminder calls. She did not leave messages, but made sure she talked to each and every one of them. They came. She had a great party.
Hope that helps!

Oh boy, all this is such good advice. Now I am running into another problem...the place i was going to have it at is charging $150 for renting the room.
I live out of town and am not set up to have this at my house.
The only place here in town that is available is a Mexican Food restaurant that has a room off to the side. I am not a regular church goer and the church that I do attend I am not happy with. So I feel really strange asking to use their activity center.
As far as the drinks go.......I thought I would at least buy seeral pitchers of soda so at least they can have a drink. I also thought about buying a couple orders of chips n salsa............
what do u think?

Many local churches will rent their hall to non-members for a small fee. Why don't you see if you can get a better deal doing that. Unfortunately, my line of business isn't really appropriate for church halls (TTV wine rep) or I would do that myself (building a house, and can't host a party at my place til its done in October!)

Check your AMF Bowling alley many of them have a lounge I have rented ours in the past for $75. Also Panera Bread has Free meeting rooms. Many Christian book stores have free meeting rooms as well as the library.

Banks also usually have a meeting room that is free to customers, or a small fee for others.
Panera - good call. I forgot about that one.

OK-I am from a very small town and our banks, bowling ally's did not have rooms to do this in. I ended up booking it at a Mexican restaurant. I think it will go nicely with the style of jewelry. I have 49 on my invite list and i know that the rule of thumb is to expect about a third of them to show. Wish me luck!

good luck! you'll do fine, just relax and remember that it's a party...so eat, mingle, relax and have fun! If you stand by your kit and don't eat, it's really cold where your standing. So warm up and have a great time...
also, when you do have parties at a home...be sure to coach your hostesses to a budget for food under $30 and a guest list over 30. Tell them not to buy any food that their family won't eat ...that usually does the trick.
KISS Keep it Simple Sweetie...
3 S's rule...Something Salty, Something Sweet, and Something to drink.
