Yesterday I got an email from West at Home saying they are no longer taking Illinois people until further notice.

Is there a reason why a whole state is being blacklisted?

IMHO I think it is because of the labor laws. Like a lot of companies will not hire California workers because of their laws on employees. So if you are in a more employee friendly and company non friendly state, it will probably be harder for you to actually get a job. With the history that IL has with unions and such, I would probably consider them one of those states unfortunately. But again, that is just my thought on it.

They're afraid the West at Home employees in Illinois will unionize!?! Not me. I won't touch that stuff.

Chicago has lost billions in convention dollars over the years because only union employees can screw in a light bulb. Even the reliable ones that have been in Chicago for decades are leaving.

I may have to move myself, if this is an issue with other WAH places....

That is just speculation on my part. There is nothing to confirm that one way or the other. I just know that Florida is a right to fire state where basically they can fire you if they feel like it. I highly dought that IL is that way. If you were the owner or CEO of a company which states would you hire people in?The ones where the company or the workers have more rights? It is totally a business decision although I do believe an unfortunate one. I know a lot of companies will not hire in California due to all of their "rights".

I really don't know why that west have decided to stop hiring in Illinois but I do want to wish everyone who was affected by this change luck and I hope you are able to find something that you truly love to do. I know that it must be stressful to find out all of sudden that you don't have a job
