Hey ladies. I'm wondering what DS candle companies do not use any bees wax? I'm vegan and don't (or try not too) use products that contain animal ingredients.

Thanks!

Hey, I am going to double check for you, but I believe Mia Bella fits your description.

Edited to add new info: I do see that certain distributors are blogging about our candles and they mention that ours is a blend of vegetable waxes and bees wax. I don't see this mentioned on the company info, however. I am still trying to get a "for certain" answer for you, but looks as though we may not fit your needs.

Thanks for asking your question as I think this is imortant and is good for me to know.

Good luck...I think there are some who use strictly soy wax, and I am sure those ladies will respond soon.

Mia Bella uses palm wax. Their make-up isn't vegan.

Sorry to keep coming back to this: I do have information that allows us to market our candles as vegetarian and vegan friendly. We do use a palm and vegetable wax blend, and I am still unsure as to why some are mentioning bees wax.

Cinnamon, you may have found your answer in SoyLIcious. I am going to continue to search for my own benefit, and I will post back one more time once I know.

Barb, please help me with the information you have...

From what I have been told by my vegan friends is that palm wax is considered vegan friendly. Beeswax, however, is a grey area. Here is what one vegan site has to say:

You ladies are great! Yes palm wax should be fine. Any vegetable wax, (even *gasp* paraffin) would be fine. Just no bees wax :)

Thank you so much for the post and the link. Great discussion! This is something I should have researched and learned about before now...

Melissa:

Here is what is written under the FAQs on our websites.

Is Mia Bella a 100% soy candle?

A. Our original formula was 100% soy but we found that soy was NOT the best ingredient to develop an alternative candle from. The reason is that 100% soy does NOT hold enough scent to create a strong scented candle. When we designed a strongly scented soy candle we found that scent actually rose to the top of the candle forming a puddle at the top. The proprietary formula we currently use is a formula specifically designed for our candle's needs (clean burning and also strongly scented) and is comprised of renewable palm waxes. In our opinion, although soy has the benefits of clean burning and warm water clean up, our blend has those benefits PLUS allows us to make the candle one of the strongest scented candles in the market!

Thanks, Barb,

Yes, I had read that we do not use soy in our candles and had not for years, but I just kept coming up on distributors who mention bees wax...not sure where that is coming from.

Cinnamon, in our back office there is a post that says our company does not use bees wax---I figured this especially since we have a candle that part of the proceeds go to help the ongoing research regarding honey bees and their decline.
I do know we use no paraffin wax.

Hi Cinnamon!
Scentsy's wax is parafin based! Since it is never burned, you don't have to worry about the parafin the way you do with open flamed candles.

I pmed you a while back with some info on Scentsy, I don't know if you ever did receive it. Would you like me to resend?

Hi Cinnamon,

This is what I found on For Every Home's website. I was 99% positive we do not use beeswax but I wanted to double check. So I guess the answer is yes, we do not use beewax.

At For Every Home™ we use renewable, biodegradable soy wax, which is cleaner-burning than paraffin wax and burns at a slower rate than beeswax. Using soy wax in our candles (http://www.wahm.com/opportunity/the_perfect_product) is just one way that we work toward a more eco-friendly atmosphere both at work and in your home.

Hey Girlfriend! So good to see your smiling face. :)

Here's clarification. Mia Bella's not only does NOT use beeswax, we have a candle called Honeybee Vanilla. This candle was created specifically in response to the honey bee population problem.

A portion of the profits of this candle go towards the research and study of why the honey bee is dying out in hopes to help.

Greetings,

I wanted to share, back when I joined Mia Bella in 2004 our labels said 'soy wax' then over the years we developed a formula that was veggie wax, soy wax and beeswax.

However upon further development we now use 100% natural and clean burning palm wax. Palm is a 'harder' wax than most other waxes on the market holding a higher % of fragrance, it travels well (takes longer for 'heat' to melt ) and burns longer due to the hard wax.

It also has a beautiful crystal ferning effect!

We removed the soy several years ago, and removed the beeswax when it became evident that the bee populations of the world are diminishing.

As Jhanna noted we introduced our Honey Bee Vanilla aroma as a fundraising candle so we could give back to a University that researches why the bees are vanishing off our planet.

I know someone who tends to bees and they have had their strongest hives vanish, while the weaker hives thrive. There is just no rhyme or reason as to what is happening to our bees, a much needed creature on our planet for natural agriculture...

I am so glad we are able to give back, and the aroma of our Honey Bee Vanilla candle is simply fantastical!
