What are rbon's brushes made out of?

Hi Barb!

My understanding is that they are goat hair acquired in the natural shedding process. As you probably know, we don't use any animal by-products in any of our products (even our capsules for our vitamins!). So these would be the only item that would have any animal item. I love that it come from the natural shedding process! And they are by far the best brushes I have ever used (at any price)!

I have contacted @ about this before. It is my understanding that the professional brush set is goat hair as Mama said. The brushes with the mineral powder foundation is boar hair. I am not sure about any of the other brushes.

So yes, these are our only products that are not vegan.

Thanks Mama and Julie. That's a shame they didn't follow through completely with being vegan.

I love everything vegan and cruelty free! I was concerned about this when I first heard....but then I realized something! I'd rather they use animal hair from the natural shedding process then using other resources (not to mention the environmental impact of creating synthetic fibers). I don't know what it takes to make a synthetic brush "hair" but I would imagine it's a much higher toxicity potential to the Earth than hair that is shed.

Now if I could just figure out what to do with all the long hair that I shed onto my sweater today lol !!!

Have a great day :-)

Somewhere I heard that they are re-doing the brushes, but I don't know that fur sure. I wish they would. But like the others said at least they obtain the hair in a natural process.

I believe the reason for this is because the natural hair brushes are higher quality brushes. I know this isn't vegan, but I have to be honost that I would rather have the quality. And as Mama said, the synthetic would most likely have petro-chemicals which I would rather avoid. Now, I'm not vegan so of course that makes a difference.

The thing is that even if the hair is from "natural shedding" the animals are still keep captive for some reason. They are not living their natural life's. They are still being exploited for our use. I'm guessing the goat hair is from dairy goats, but I don't know. Now I'm not being preachy, just telling you why they still would not be ok by a vegan standard. With that said I'm on my way to being vegan and I'm not perfect. I still have products in my home that contain animal ingredients. I don't believe in wasting things so I will use up what I have until it's gone. I did pick up a very nice set of vegan friendly makeup brushes at my local store.

Goats are generally speaking, better off in a tended situaton. ( Think about the Good Shepherd) They even like hanging out with horses. So I do not feel bad for domesticated goats. No coyotes to worry about.
However, I must say, I am allergic to goat hair. The company I am with has used it in the past , and my eyelids broke out. I find a man made brush ( Taklon) is best for me. And many others. I care about animals.. but I DO have to look after myself, also.

I don't think so much domesticating the goats is the problem. Imo nothing wrong with having pets. Just hope they are being teated well and unfortuanaly not every farmer treats his animals well.
