Hello fellow WAHMs,

I just became a consultant for the new company Heritage Makers and since I'm quite new at this party "gig", I was wondering if it's expected that the consultant/rep, supply goodies for the party, even if it's being hosted at another person's house?

Hi Lisa! I have NEVER supplied goodies, I'm assuming you mean snacks right? I did do a party once where I wanted to get into some themed parties and did the "everybody bring a banana" thing and I brought the ice cream. They made banana splits with them after the banana game we played. The hostess supplied all the other goodies. But I really wanted to give a themed party a try so I offered to help out that way. Other than that I've never brought anything to a party except for myself, my stuff, a hostess gift and a couple simple, inexpensive little game prizes.

Thanks for the input. I thought that if I needed to be bringing snacks, I'd be at a loss as what to bring? Plus, since I'm just starting out, my budget is a little tight. Wouldn't really impress the guests if I show up with a bag of cheezies. Better leave the goodies to the one who's hosting the "Celebration" (That's what they're called in Heritage Makers)

LOL Lisa, yeah leave it to them. Here's a hint that I'm sure you've been told but just in case......Tell her to keep the snacks simple because you want this as easy on her as possible. Also, tell her that you would like to do the demo before the eats. I've never been to a demo with your company but I know with most parties, if the guests come in and start eating you'll be an hour or more later starting your part. This makes for some very late nights. With my parties there are hands on things like games and handling products that food in laps get in the way of so I can't do anything while everyone is eating. If I can get them to just hang tight for a few and get through my part, they are eating in 30 or 40 minutes. I've also found that most times people will place their orders as soon as I get finished before they go eat. Then, I can add everything up and go tell the Hostess in front of everbody how much she earned for free and some goals if she wants more and you can get some more bookings that way too. Everyone is standing or sitting around eating and visiting so they tend to come up with ideas of people she can get to order and book or they'll end up encouraging each other to book when they hear how much the Hostess got. I've even had them in the past, hammer out a guest list right then and there because everyone was sitting there and they were saying "I'll come, I'll come". That's a great feeling to leave a party with a guest list for a future party already in hand!

Yes definately keep the food simple! The focus is on your products!

Ditto on the keeping food simple. I usually suggest brownies and coffee (they end up doing more than that, but I use that as an example for how little work I want them to have to do).

I had one show where this woman had a chocolate fountain, fondue...all kinds of stuff. My sales were really low b/c everyone was focused on the food. Not that I really blame them...I mean, come on, a chocolate fountain??!! I was tempted to abandon the jewelry for the chocolate, too. smileys/smiley36.gif

ETA: I have done a booking activity where I have a carton full of goodies (cups, plates, napkins, brownie mix, coffee, etc.) and if they pick that date, they get the party stuff, too, so they can use it for their show. Edited by: MamaK

That's hilarious about the chocolate fondue? How can someone concentrate on ANYTHING else, when there is liquid chocolate in the room!

That's a great idea about the party box kit! I'll have to try that! Thanks!
