I am a night owl to a fault!

Thank goodness I don't work or I'd be in a world of hurt heehee...

I stay up very late usually til about 3am in the morning...sometimes I get up at 6:30am to get the children off to school (but hubby helps me with that all the time) and then I sleep til around 9 or 10am and go about the day.

I also find I'm more focused at night, fresh ideas come to me at night, and noo distractions b/c everyone is sleep.

However I do have 1/2 days 'off'. Friday I 'work' half a day and I take either Sat or Sun. off.

I used to be a night-owl to a fault, and still am to some extent compared with most people.

There are other alternatives to "night-owl" and "early-bird" though, you know? This (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Everyman.png) is my own sleeping-pattern now, for nearly 2 years, and very successfully, because I was advised by a neurologist to take up polyphasic sleeping (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphasic_sleep) (probably not suitable for anyone with children, though!). :D

Hiya

I can work from 9 in the morning through to 1.00pm at night, although I do find I am more alert in the morning and am able to come up with good content for my website.

I am not able to do this everyday as I think I would be like a walking zombie with the lack of sleep.

If I had my way and I wasn't time restricted I would probably be more of a morning person, but hey I just have to grab the time I get (well for now anyway).

Cheers

Julie

Cause I am. I wake up early and go strong all day tending to my house and family. Taking breaks in between to sit down to post, write or read more about IM. Then at night I sit down with no distractions till about 2 am to focus on "work". I stay focused till 2 any later and I become a zombie. Then do it all over again the next day.

I am such an early-bird now that it seems funny to remember when I wasn't. I think my natural inclination has always been to the early morning side of life. I used to be much more of a night owl, though, but when I was promoted to the copy desk at the newspaper I was working at, at the time, and had to be at work, functioning really well, at 6 in the morning, well, the night-owl days were done! And even after I started working from home many moons ago, I still maintain the early hours. I get stuff done -- or really, many days a week, I get my exercising in. If I'm not doing that, I have to say I revel in the silence.

I've read that it is very typical for Women to be creatures of the night, I to am one. It goes back to our cave dwelling days. The women were the ones the kept the group secure at night, we hear the slightest noise and are aroused very easily. The Men are typically morning larks, getting up early for the hunt to keep the group fed.
Explains alot doesn't it? I deal with this issue on a daily basis. As soon as I had kids, it was all downhill from there.
Women also have acute olfactories, so we can smell danger! That is why we can smell foul orders, when others can't...a curse in my opinion.

Great Post

Definitely an early bird - I'm useless in the evening. Even when I was 18 I found it hard to stay up late, (always a "party-pooper!") Not my fault though, if they had "morning parties I'd be fine.

It's now three minutes to four (in the morning), UK time. It's lovely and peaceful, even the dog isn't hassling me yet :-)

My grown-up son is the opposite - we practically pass each other on the stairs: me getting up and him going to bed!

No matter how much I try, I am a night owl. I feel my more alert really late. My husband works at a bar and works evenings-nights, so we are really bad. Society and our friends tease us and call us lazy because we stay up until 2-3 am, but I get al ot done, as much if not more then they do. It drives my in-laws nuts, because as teachers, they expect EVERYONE to adhere to a 8-4 or 9-5 type schedule. I usually get up between 10-11 am.

I am really lucky that my children are old enough to get themselves off to school. I used to get up earlier, but not anymore, usually between 10-11 am. And, before anyone goes complaining about not getting up with them, let me say that we live RIGHT across the street from school. :p

I am sooooo glad I read this thread, because now I know I am not alone!

However I do have 1/2 days 'off'. Friday I 'work' half a day and I take either Sat or Sun. off.

Me too! I'm totally a night owl, and am barely functional until the afternoon.

Just last night I stayed up until 7 in the morning when I came up with a great idea and finished the whole project down to putting up a sales page for it on the Warrior Forum!

Already sold a bunch of them too! Now I'm tired, of course :(

And I'm lucky to be a night owl because it actually synchronizes better with many of my clients on the West coast (and even Asia), but it's frustrating because I sometimes feel very out of sync here and it takes me a huge effort to make morning meetings and be coherent at that time.

I might have to calibrate myself to go to bed closer to midnight...

I am also a little bit of both. But since doing IM I have been going days without any sleep whatsoever. Thanks to coffee. I start and I forget to eat even, do not want to sleep because I might miss something, But, when I eventually do fall asleep, it is usually of 10 or more hours.

Lakeisha,

Looks as if you may be a good 3rd shift worker. I too find that I can brainstorm and work better during those hours because it's very peaceful!

Friday I 'work' half a day and I take either Sat or Sun. off.

I like to sleep! So I would say I am neither. Don't want to wake up too early and don't want to go to bed too late.:p

My brain works best in the late evening and at night, from 9 pm on.

Don't ask me any thinking questions before 11 am. You'll get a grunt and moan in response :)

DH has to get up for work at 2:45am and I am a light sleeper - so am usually up with him and then asleep by about 9pm or so.

Definitel a night owl, but I am trying to change as I don't feel like getting up in the morning. I'd like to start getting up earlier.

I am an Night Owl, I always was, I think I'm more creative at night, In the morning I do what needs to be done only!
But sometimes when I have to get up earlier I notice the beauty of the morning's fresh air and the upcoming day. That's beautiful

I can be both, but mostly I am an early bird. I like to get up before the kids and have that quiet me time.

Depends on the day, sometimes I get up real early and start working, some days I stay up late, depends on my mood.

Goodness, I think I'm an early bird. I'm often away early in the morning and struggle to get back to sleep. But that might relate to age too, who knows? I'm usually very tired by 10.30pm and have to nag hubby it's time for bed. But I'm wide awake come 6am and sometimes much earlier.

I think it depends on what project I am working on.
I would say that 3am is my deadline though, I find the time between 11pm and 3am goes so fast when I am focus on a project.

I usually like to finish off at a natural break rather than work by the clock.

Other times I would get up at 3am if I wake with that great idea on my mind then go back for a quick nap when that natural break comes along, probably 1 to 4 hours latter.

Yes, I'm up at 04:50, cup of tea, apple, desk for 2 straight hours then wake the kids up and the day goes crazy.

It took a while to getting brain used to writing so early but now I'm used to it I se it as my most productive time.

I am definitely an early bird. I'm not at all very coherent at night. Also a little grumpy:o
But love the early mornings!:)

My husband and I have always been night owls. He has a midday work schedule, so we get up around 9:30 and we don't really feel fully "awake" until around 5pm.

Before I was a night owl because I have to do my projects at school over night but now I am an early bird because I need to wake-up early not to be late in the office for my job. :)

I'm an early bird. Starting early make the day longer so that I can get more done.

Left to my own devices, I will get up early, get lots of stuff done, then take a mid-afternoon nap, then stay up late.

But since I live with someone else, I follow his schedule -- he has the steady job. So it's 8am to rise and 11:30 - midnight to bed.

I'd love to be more of a night owl than I already am. I don't think I'll ever be a morning person no matter what! Hahahaa...

I'm definitely an early bird however if I don't stay out of the forum, the late nights are going to interfere with getting up in the morning.

Definitely a night owl. It's not uncommon for me to work until 2 or 3 in the morning, especially now that my kids are a little older.

One popular wisdom says.: Who gets up early on two lucky wins...
I go to bed usually far from midnight ... But I wake up with the first rays of the sun ...
I love to get up early and watch the city that wakes up ...
I try to sleep trough a smaller part of my lives.

I find that I’m more an Early Bird, however it is still hard for me to get up in the morning. At 9PM my brain pretty much turns to mush. If I can get myself out of bed at a decent hour then I am the most creative and energized all day.

Definitely a night owl! Though my daughter loves getting up really early. So it's kind of tough some days juggling early bird morning mommy duty with bleary eyes. Thank goodness for coffee!

Im definately an early bird too. If I have a late night it takes me a few days to get back to feeling myself. Im definateky atr my most productive when I have 8 hours sleep and get up early. I find it works best for me to always be on the verge of tiredness.
