Okay I signed up for Elance and Guru to find some opportunities. Now that I have signed up, I'm nervous about bidding because I have no clue what to say to the clients in my proposal as to why they should hire me. I have been in healthcare for 20 years and the jobs I've had don't really match the experience of an Admin Support person. I do know a lot about word and excel but it's not because it was part of my job but because it was always something that interested me in my person life. My actual work experience spans from calling doctors and giving directions to registering patients and ordering surgery supplies. I've been what was called a unit and OR secretary, but it's very different from the secretary or admin assistant in the business world (if that makes sense). I don’t want to sound like I am putting myself down but how do you sell yourself in a field that is not really yours? :(

I would point out that you have great time management skills or that you are very organized. I have worked in the heath care setting and I know the unit secretary has to be on their toes and have great organizational skills. Hopefully some others can give you more advice. Good luck though and keep trying!

20 years office experience - what's your typing speed? (asks the one who can't type) - Programs you're proficient with?
I don't know much about healthcare but I see ads on CL that may (or not) be a good fit....

Tell them what you can offer them (typing speed, open communication lines, great self management skills... whatever you think your strong points are) then tell them what you will do for their project specifically if applicable.
Also include a breakdown of how you arrived at your basic price... $X per article multiplied by Y articles or A¢ multiplied by B data entry columns multiplied by C lines.
