Hello. I was wondering how you package your candles for fundraisers? Do you go out and buy boxes? I'm thinking of doing some for schools and can use any helpful hints anyones has. When you do home parties and they only order one how do you package it so it doesn't break? Thanks for your answers!

I get bags to package mine in. We ordrer them in bulk, but you can get them at your local craft or party store.
We wrap our in paper. We also buy this by the ream online.

Hi Monica~

I agree with Jennie it is best to purchase the bags in bulk. It can get pricey if you use your companies bags.

Hi there! My suggestion on packaging for fundraisers is that you have the candles shipped to the organization and that you do not do anything additional in the way of packaging. Leave to to your company to deliver the candles in good condition, and you show up to sort and label each and every candle.

You may include in your original presentation a short blurb suggesting how to carry the candles, and/or how to show their kids how to carry the candles.

Here is why:

The money in Fundraising is volume. You want to set yourself up to be able to do this again and again, and ever expanding. The last thing you want to do is set a precedent that you cannot repeat or the person after you (big vision here...say that you hand this one off to a new recruit next year because your business is booming so big!!) cannot replicate. Rely on the promotion, pricing, product, and packaging that your company offers.

By packaging a candle you are giving the illusion that it's secure. Glass jar candles are never secure, they need to be handled with care and that is never more obvious than when people can see that its a glass jar candle they are carrying. Let the school determine how it is going to handle it, given what the candles were shipped to them in. If they survived the trip thats a good indicator that they will survive the trip home.

Every fundraising item has its ups and downs.....after all, candy bars melt, cookie dough needs to be kept in the freezer, wrapping paper can't get wet....and glass jar candles come in glass jars which increases their risk for breakage.

The very best of luck to you with your fundraising and I hope this info was helpful!!

Claire, thank you for your post. I am getting ready to do some fundraisers this year (hopefully), and I had been thinking along the lines of what you shared.

Everyone has given some great advice and good info. I have really needed these posts!

Anytime!! I am also looking forward to a year of fundraising!!

I forgot one thing...along with sorting and labeling the candles of course you do want to inspect them as well, to be sure they leave your hands in the condition intended.

thanks for all the great info. where do you buy your bags in bulk? and flicker said she uses paper. is that newspaper? I'm just nervous about them breaking but every item does have something that could go wrong. I never thought of it that way. if anybody has a website that they want to share that would be great. thanks!
