I'm a stay at home mom and have worked in many different areas of work at home. On the side I have been designing business cards for friends companies and bands, tattoo artist, websites, doing Ads for a family memebers pest control company, practically Pro-BoNo, which was a NoNo (lol!) The amount of time and patience I had to spend on it was a lot and I love doing it but i need to make money. I have a good portfolio with things I have done for earlier stated work and logos and designs I have just created for fun.

What i want to do is start off offering Custom and Standard Logo Design, Ads (paper and Ads for online use), and Business Cards. How do I get this rolling and how do i determine pricing and such things?

Research Research Research

A few things I've learned along the way....

Make sure you find out about your local sales tax laws. Some services are taxable in my state, while others are not.

Obtain your business license from the state/county you live in, I'm able to operate under a DBA (Doing Business As) status.

Sometimes, you can find out what others are offering to charge them and then beat that offer!

I agree with WebMistress. Do research on the competitors in your area. Pricing varies depending on where you live. Make sure your pricing is competitive. I also offer company branding for my clients and design logos, business cards, letterhead and envelopes. My company is an affiliate of Vista Print (http://www.vistaprint.com/vp/ns/default.aspx?GP=1%2f4%2f2010+4%3a10%3a44+PM). They have very reasonable prices and it's easy to upload graphics and have orders shipped to your clients.

Best of luck to you on starting your business. If I can answer any questions for you please feel free to e-mail me.
