I went to demo the Instant Manicure SOH in Ambre at my open house and it had lost it's scent and instead had a very off scent. So needless to say, I wasn't able to sell the unopened one I still have left. I had this happen with my previous demos in the Herbal Serenity fragrance. I thought our products had a 3 year life once opened... I'm wondering if this is the reason I don't get reorders for the Instant Manicures. They were a top selling item when I did spas, but now that I'm mostly doing reorders I'm not selling them. Is everyone experiencing the same thing that the scent deteriates and becomes very blah and almost a turnoff. I cannot get a replacement for my demo because I bought it over a year ago.
Can anyone give me the scoop on this? (I'm guessing that the repackaging may address this problem.)

I have not noticed this issue with my own personal instant manicure (I always have a jar in my bathroom and sometimes keep one in the kitchen too) or my demos. I haven't had any clients complain of this to me either, but of course that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. Is it possible that there was some kind of contamination? Like maybe people sticking their fingers in it or something like that?

I've had issues with the regular scented SOH starting to smell bad after it has being opened for about a month.....If you don't do many spa's and us it up then it can turn. If I know it's going to be a while before I have another spa, I typically leave the opened SOH at the location usually its at an office.

Yuck - turning after 1 month opened. No wonder I'm not getting reorders... That must be what is happening to my clients too; which is very disappointing.

There has to be something that is causing this. I have been a consultant for almost 4 years now and have never had this happen to me before. You should e-mail Gary about it. Mine are always open for more than a month (I have never gone through a full jar for demo or personal use in a month) and I have not had even a single jar change scent. I am always careful to warn my clients not to stick their fingers in the jar, and if it is a gift where I may not meet the recipient I include a spoon usually and a little instruction sheet that tells them not to put their fingers in it as it can contaminate the product.

Your Show of Hands is a ntaural oil product and it does change scent over time. I insrtuct my clients to use it regularly because after about a year, the scent can change, much like your other natural kitchen oils. The product is still safe, but it is much more enjoyable in the first year.
As for the original issue with the Show of Hands, I would definitley replace it with a new one for the client and keep her happy.
Giving a spatula to keep them from dipping their hands into will help as well.
Tip for Canadian consultants, the price of our Show of Hands, which will be renamed BC Spa Manicure in January, will be reduced to $30 Canadian. Woo Hoo.

I've also had this issue with the brown sugar scrub. I loved the stuff, but I needed to use it up within a couple months or it went rancid. The other product that definitely doesn't have a long shelf life is the age-defying foundation. It starts to smell after 4 months. When they first came out I bought a selection of the most popular colours for testers and was dismayed when they were rancid so soon. It's a sealed product, so it's not a matter of contamination. Like Sherri said, oils just don't have that long of a shelf life. Canola oil in my kitchen goes rancid after a few months. I've stopped buying the big bottles (even though they cost the same as the tiny ones) because I can never get through it before it goes bad.

I think there is something magic in my house that I need to find a way to bottle! lol I have never had this with any of these things, including canola oil. I use the Platinum Foundation and have never run into it on that either. I don't know exactly how quickly I go through a tube, but I don't think it's less than 4 months. And I had a brown sugar scrub open for 3 years (a tester so clients could smell it and feel it) and it never went rancid. I'm not trying to argue, just think it's weird that I have never run into this issue before at all. I can't even tell you how long I have a bottle of Canola Oil in my kitchen, and I have never had to throw one of those away either. I buy the big bottles and only cook for 2 people, so those last a LONG time. Anyhow, I wonder what the difference is? Not that I am complaining, just wondering what I am doing differently so I can help! :)

I tend to find the same thing as Bethany at this time. I did have problems earlier with two tubes of the Age-Defying getting smelly . I reported it to BC and they replaced it as I hadn't had it very long. What I found was that if I always put the plastic cover on it after I used it that I no longer had that problem. Our bathroom can get steamy, so I think it contributed to the problem when I didn't put the cover on. Don't know if this will help anyone or not, but I hope that it might. ;) I haven't every had a problem with all of the jars of SOH that I have opened in 6 years, so I can't help there. I do wipe off the rim and keep a canning lid next to the jar, before I put on the lid.
