Well ... they're two entirely different things. Finding an appropriate Merchant Account facility will be very dependent on your location/country (not specified), and even for finding an appropriate credit-card processing company that may be relevant ... (I have experience of four or five and can possibly help a little, but can you possibly specify a little bit more about what you're looking for, what you need it for, where you are, and so on?).

Well, I am looking to start my own website and would have certain companies advertise with me. I was wanting to accept credit cards on my site so that they could pay directly from there and or have sometime of software where i could accept payments by phone. I am located in US. Thanks for responding.

Paypal processes CC payments for clients with and without an account. You could also use Authorize.net for CC payments as well. Propay offers both the option of accepting CC over the net as well as via telephone.
I recommend doing an indepth investigation on Propay though as I've heard mix reviews about them.
