Hey everyone!
I was just telling one of my "co-workers" about this on the phone and had to share it here because I wanted to "hear" your reactions....
Okay...so a few weeks ago I talked with this woman who was really excited to do a party / fundraiser for her preschool.
I called her recently to follow up and shesaysthat she can't *handle* it right now because she is having a really hard time....
So automatically I think someone in her family has died, she is going through a divorce, etc.. (she sounded terrible).
"are you okay???" I ask...."no, I am quitting smoking..." smileys/smiley5.gif
Do I win for best excuse?
Would love to hear yours. This *still* cracks me up!

Traci, you just cracked me up. I've never heard that one!
I did a party not long ago and I ask every guest about having their party. One proceeds to tell me, I have one "home party a year" and that's all. Meanwhile when I told my hostess what her friend said, she said, "oh she has parties all the time"...did she let the cat out of the bag or what?
What a way to keep me away...but she wants me to stay in touch for next year!

A friend of mine was doing a fair booth, and she asked a lady about doing a party - the woman says - oh, no, I just don't have time - I have 5 kids. My friend comes back with, well how about next month - the woman replies - I'll still have the 5 kids then!

Okay, I can't say I've heard any real winners BUT ... oh Traci, I'm sorry but I have to stick up for the quitter smileys/smiley36.gif
As a smoker myself (who has tried to quite NUMEROUS times)... Trust me, it was probably for YOUR benefit!! smileys/smiley36.gif You don't want to be there! smileys/smiley2.gif LOL!
But yeah, I admit ... it is a unique one!
Take care,
Anita smileys/smiley17.gif

I know people who have smoked, and quitting is a huge deal and makes them jittery. Trust me, you wouldn't want to deal with her right now. Good for her. That is a huge deal.

Traci, that is a very funny excuse but I have an idea for you, too.
Perhaps in a week or two, send her a card of encouragement.
Nothing fancy, just letting her know that she's on your mind and that
you hope that she's doing well and that you're cheering her on all the
way! She'll remember you for that and that may get you a booking
from her in the future once things settle down for her. smileys/smiley1.gif

I'm in the same boat as Anita. I keep "practicing" quitting and it is really hard. I haven't tried lately, only because I don't want to bite my children's heads off smileys/smiley36.gifsmileys/smiley36.gif
But, still......that is a pretty funny excuse not to do a fundraiser (of all thing, a fundraiser!!). Too funny!smileys/smiley36.gif
When I was with a previous party plan company, I had a guest at a party tell me, "I don't believe in shopping amongst the company of friends." Hello?!?! You're AT an in-home shopping party with some friends right now.smileys/smiley29.gif

I really like the card of encouragement idea. I would not have thought to do that, I don't think.

You can go to Michael's and get a box of blank cards with all sorts of
subject matter, sympathy, birthday, thinking of you, etc., fairly
cheaply.
In this case with the initial post, she'll see the card, who it's from
and the company she represents with no selling involved and she'll
remember.
Perhaps a follow up call or another card can be done later to see how
she's doing and, if she's doing well at her goal, perhaps a little
celebration with her friends is called for and what better way to
celebrate than to have a party and treat herself to some goodies!
Then you treat her like the queen she is at the party and make sure
that it is a celebration of a goal reached while somehow incorporating
it into your party.
You may just end up with a customer for the life of your business, not
to mention those who know what you did for her and who knows what they
can bring in. smileys/smiley2.gif

For all of you ladies out there who want to quit smoking- I quit back in October of 2004 and haven't had a cigerette since. I drank ice water & cranberry juice- both help to detoxify your body of the nicotine- you'll be rid of nicotine in 3 days. And it also helps if you have a mindset to want to quit. You have to remember that your body is used to you -puffing away on those cigerettes every 20 minutes or so.Just tell yourself NO you don't want a cigerette now & your mind will eccept that. It has to readjust to the fact that you no longer want to smoke. Also IF you Ladies REALLY new what all manufacturers put in those cigerettes besides tobacco you definately wouldn't want to smoke a cig. I'm not preaching just stating facts-you could find that in-"cigerettes/ingrediants" through google or yahoo if you're serious about quitting smoking. I smoked for 23 years & will Never Ever go back to it again!! So for those who wish to quit-you have my blessings & good luck. Rosalee Decker- HGP Designer
