View Full Version : Are You Addicted To Technology?

I think I am!
Do you find yourself anxious and excited to get to the computer after being away from it? Or do you frequently check your technical device to check e-mails, social sites, e-bay and such?
I know that having a home business many of us do use the comuter or other devices (mine is the iPhone), but do you feel like you may be addicted?
Honestly, sometimes I think I am!

Me too. I mean I am trying to make money so I have to stay on a lot. But at the same time I also stay on the internet a lot out of boredom. I do try to enforce going some days without the net when I feel I am on to much.
I wouldn't yet call it an addiction yet because most of the time I'm on here I am working. But I do depend on the internet for entertainment way to much. I need to get out into the real world for some fun.

I think it is all a matter of perspective. It's funny how "technology dependant" we have all become. When/if there is a storm that knocks the power out and all electronic equipment goes "silent", one tends to sit and think "My goodness! It is SO quiet around here" and "Maybe I'll sit and watch a movie ... ooops, the computer is off ... maybe I'll read a book ... ooops, my books are all on my computer .... .... .... :o
Point being, we have got to get back to where we have a "Work/Life" Balance, meaning we have to find an outlet outside our "comfort zone" at our computers.
I remember some 50+ years ago when the power would go out, we would all be sitting around the big dining room table. My grandmother would break out the oil lamps, flashlights, and candles so we could sit and play Royal Rummy, War, or Canasta card games, and talk ..... Today? My card games are on my computer ... :)

I had to go without electricity for three days (we were switching companies and it got turned off too soon) and it was really freeing. I read paper books, not ebooks, I wrote with a pen, not a keyboard, etc. It was nice except for the fact that my stove and water heater is electric, lol.

Well, if it means not feeling comfortable without my mobile phone, iPod, and notebook all the time, then I think I'm addicted to technology. It's a huge part of our lives now and I just can't afford to last a single moment without it, especially because my work depends on it too!

I'd say yes, I'm addicted. We all have our vices...mine is my computer. It's an escape, it's a gateway, it doesn't ask anything of me and pretty much does whatever I want!
I love my computer!
I try to be aware of my computer time at home, I want to do better on that!

My name is Jessica and I AM TOTALLY addicted to technology! My computer really. My computer went down about a month ago and I thought I was going to have a heart attack! I didn't realize how dependant I had become on the computer for business dealings, getting news and staying in contact with people. I felt so lost! Now I am aware of my problem, I'm just not sure how to solve it!

You know, in fact I use the computer so often that at times I don't even want to switch it on, as for the mobile, I can't live without it

I am here to join you in the discussion going in this forum. Me too is addicted of this technological drug.
Hope you will agree with me
Thanks!

Yes it's quite sad sometimes. I can sit in front of my computer for hours but the thought of sitting and reading a book for the same amount of time is daunting. Although if it's a book online I can do it, ha.

I think I am too. I maybe addicted to technology especially with my computer. But this is also my bread and butter so it's understandable that I need to go online daily. I'm a freelance writer so computer is a big part of my daily life. When I have no work, I try not to use the computer but at times I really can't resist.

I know I'm an addict and I will NEVER own a phone that connects because of this. lol I twitter from my phone from the ski lifts, but thankfully can't check any of my stuff from my phone without paying an arm and a leg. I'll never switch that as I spend so much time on my laptop already!

I don't think I am "addicted" but I am certainly more dependent on it. I use social media a lot but I still believe face to face beats any e-mail or any online social media. They are great "tools" to use in todays day and age but I'm trying not to get too hooked. I still like my nice paper address book and calendar too versus using just the computer for this.

Hi,
Technology has a great impact and effect on our lives we couldn't even think to live without technology. It has included in our daily lives.Off course technology is important to us but a book has no competition to technology.I love reading good books that broaden my vision and increase my knowledge and gives me immense pleasure and happiness.
Thanks...

wouldn't say that I'm addicted but you really don't see how much you rely on it til it's gone. Our house tries to turn off all "electrical devices" at least once a week. At first I was worried about rebellion but now we actually look forward to it. But sometimes easier said than done :)

Almost everyone today is addicted to something. It can be drugs, food, sex or Internet/technology or smth else. Heck, we even have 10 yrs old kids who don't know how to spend their time with their friends outside. They are rather playing COD or spend their time on Facebook. I don't consider myself addicted to the Internet. I had a time when I just had to be online almost 24/7. It was pretty scary, tho. But now I rather spend my free time outdoors and with people I love. It's much better than spending free time with this piece of metal ...

Absolutely hooked. There are two of us and we have 4 PCs in the house - a desktop for upstairs and a laptop for downstairs.
I don't leave the house without the cell phone, and I'd bring my GPS unit along if my wife didn't tease me about it being too "geeky".

I've been online for 16 years now. Started at 15 back in 1994. :) I am very dependent on it, but I wouldn't say 'addicted', though I've had addictive phases. Like when I was pregnant or when my girls were infants. I was online all day every day, chatting away with other moms in my birth club.

I was addicted to chatting online and watching youtube videos while pregnant with my daughter. My husband was at work most of the day, and it's amazing how caught up you can become in the internet, I hardly noticed he was gone!:p

I'll admit it! I hate going without my cell phone AT ALL, that thing is my freakin' lifeline. The internet, well, that's how I work and make money. My mp3 player used to be an attachment on my hand lol. I spend a majority of my day online, I'm always looking for new ways to market myself.
If I had to do without, though, I'm pretty sure I could.

I'm addicted to the internet but not to any other type of technology.
I work on the computer and socialize on it. I also socialize in the real world, but I'd be lost without my computer socializing.

Unfortunately I spend a lot of my time with a computer. Sounds sad but it is true. It is okay once in a while, but it is not something I enjoy all of the time.
I prefer to spend more time in "real life", just like most people.

I thought I might be addicted to my iPhone but reading your post I think I have got a bit of online compulsive disorder. When I'm out walking, camping etc. I do really reeelax away from it, but as soon as I'm back at home the PC goes on before I unpack
So, I guess I'm holding my hands up, and admiting it.

Technology is how my business is run. I can't imagine a life without it really. Even my hobbies are connected - writing blogs and books and photography.
Do I take time out from it? Not really, it's a part of my life. The internet is a need for my business but it's also how I connect with many friends too. I love it!

If I'm not on my phone with internet then I'm on the computer for the internet. Texting is a second nature I don't think my phone even rings if it weren't for texting. Seems nobody wants to call anymore because messaging is so much faster and easier. We are women which makes us multitaskers, I'm highly addicted to doing 50 things at once. Thank gosh for technology.:D

Yes, I guess I am too dependent on my computer and my cell phone.(which is like a mini computer....it's a Droid) I think it's mostly just a sign of the times. Aren't our kids texting all the time? I know mine text me whenever they are away. It just happens. I can live without my computer; I just prefer not to. It makes things way easier than they were in the old days. Like when you wanted to correct a typing error in the old days, I had type the entire page over or use that stupid white-out stuff....blick! Now it's a simple backspace...I say hooray for technology and all the advances it has brought us!!!!!!
