We've recently had a few or our subscribers asking us about online parties. I've even been asked to possibly do a workshop at an upcomingDS companyconvention on online parties. On one hand I was starting to think that online parties were starting to be a thing of the past but on the other hand the more I look around ... the more I'm seeing that they're alive and well, lol.

So, that makes me think that maybe I should not only do the workshop but also do an online chat about parties. I'm just wondering if there's enough interest still to warrant the chat.

So, are you still having online parties?

TIA!

Hi Anita,

I am mixed about online parties. I have had a few really great ones, and I have had several that completely bombed. The good ones, I think, were because people were treating it as a *real* party - there was a hostess and invitations sent out (via email). The ones that bombed, they were either someone just trying to get free stuff without doing anything, or it was a random party with no hostess (or a mystery hostess, or a part of an online fair).

I try not to do them unless I have chatted with the hostess and I (and she!) treats it like a regular party, just online instead of in person.

In the end though - really all I lose is maybe an hour of my time - so I guess its not a complete loss!

Yes, I do them and attend them! I mostly do online vendor events and have better success at those. I have done online party trainings so I have a ton of notes, ideas, etc. if you need something to go by. What a great opportunity you have to do a workshop at an upcoming convention.

Angie~ How does a vendor event work? I did one of sort, and it was a bomb for me. There were too many there promoting their products. We had time slots, but it was an all day event, and difficult to cover everything (and exhausting).

Anyhow, I was just wondering if it was the way this one was set up or if it's something a little different~

I have done online parties, and like anything else, some are wonderful, others are not. Invitation and RSVP follow up is important! Having some fun games and just the right time for everybody to attend can be tricky too~

Thanks for the feedback ladies! I really appreciate it!

Angie ... I am SUPER EXCITED about the possible workshop! There's a possibility that all the time has been booked already but ... well, it's still up in the air.

I think regardless I am still going to do the chat. I can't just ignore those who have asked about it, right? Plus, I've polled at a couple of other websites and I'm getting basically the same response as here.

Angie, I would *love* to look over your notes etc. I'll even be sure to give you a nice little plug for your imput too smileys/smiley2.gif It's always nice to get a couple point of views anyway! (Remember - Experts from the DS Kit?, lol)

Bianca ... my guess is that it really might have had a lot to do with the way things were set up. There's so much that could have been done or not done. We have had quite a few vendor events in the past and I think things went very well. It's important that everyone does their share in inviting guests, advertising etc. It's important to make sure the time slots are well proportioned. You must keep some sort of order too. I've been to events that there were so many vendors popping in at the same time that you really didn't know who's turn it was. That and ick ... advertising their business while it was someone else's turn smileys/smiley11.gif It needs to be well-moderated and make sure everyone gets a fair turn. You have to pick the right days, times etc. If it's going to be super-long you need to make sure you allow time for breaks and it's often better to spread it out over a certain amount of time. I've seen where 5 scrapbookers were allowed in the same event. (Just an example of course). In my own opinion ... to be fair - one rep per company and one "type" of company should be allowed.

Hmmm... I could go on but I better go get dinner started, lol. But really, my point is ... there are so many aspects that must be well-planned and needs TONS of organization. Without that ... well then, often you end up with a flop smileys/smiley5.gif
