View Full Version : legitimate surveys: always a fee?

I certainly could be wrong here, since I'm new and don't have a lot of info. However, it seems that any legitimate survery site (at least the ones I've found) has some type of fee to pay first. I guess I'm referring only to those who pay cash. Am I wrong, or are there some survey sites who pay cash where one doesn't have to pay any fee?
Admittedly, I haven't had the time to research this very much, but so far that's what I've found.
Thank you for any direction on this.

If they're charging a fee I wouldn't be so sure of their legitimacy.

There are plenty out there that DO NOT charge a fee.

The ones I recommend are SurveyHead - I get oodles of surveys from them and reached the $25 cash out in under a month with over $40 of other surveys still pending on my account.

Lightspeed - I get a decent number of surveys here and have accumulated enough points in a few weeks to earn $10-15 if I cashed out, but I'm letting them accrue for a bit longer.

Greenfield - I never actually qualify for their surveys which drives me nuts, BUT I do qualify for their "interactive survey panels" which last 90 minutes usually and pay $30-50. I did two of those during October to I consider Greenfield a keeper.

None of them charge a fee either.

I've never had to pay... Maybe you are referring to those sites that charge you to get a list of survey sites? Some surveys let you choose between products and gift cards, etc. Some pay cash when you get a certain amount built up. One survey site sent me a number of visa cards over a few month period. I have just started back doing my surveys after a number of months. I was working and just didn't want to put in the time to do them. But I've started back up :)

Don't every pay an up front fee for a survey site. I belong to many survey/offer sites and they were all free to join.

Pinecone, Opinion Outpost, Toluna, and the ones mentioned above do not charge fees and they do pay.

Any legitimate paid survey sites will NOT charge you ANY fees whatsoever. Real legitimate paid surveys are conducted by market research companies when they pay people for their time and honest opinion on products and services etc - they always pay you, not the other way around.

The real survey sites (the ones that deal with consumer research) NEVER charge a fee. What you are actually looking at are websites that are selling a list of survey sites. Once you pay for the list you will still need to sign up with each survey site individually. So, you may as well use a free list of survey sites and save your money.

Be careful, a lot of the lists whether free or paid for, also include a lot of GPT and offer sites as well as email harvesting sites. This can be frustrating for someone just getting started in surveys.

The others are EXACTLY right, any site that charges you a fee to join them is not a legitimate site. Period.

The problem is the scammy sites tend to spend WAY more advertising and trying to drive people to their sites...giving paid surveys a bad name.

That said, there are plenty of great sites that are free to join with no strings attached and do pay people for taking surveys.

Hi: Forgive my ignorance here, but what is "GPT and offer sites" and I suspect "email harvesting sites" require e-mail addresses? Thanks in advance.

GPT and offer sites are sites that will pay you for doing things...usually signing up for web sites, completing offers (like "try a 30 day trial of Netflix and we'll pay you $5" or that kind of thing), applying for credit cards.

There certainly are people out there who make money this way, but I am not one of them.

Sometimes you will see survey sites listed on those sites. So that is what they are referring to.

Wow--never expected so much feedback--you guys are great! Thanks again for the info. I'll look into the suggested sites.

GPT sites are "get paid to".. get paid to click ads, get paid to read emails, etc. Offer sites are often disguised as survey sites but they want you to do "trial offers" for instance sign up for a free trial at netflix and earn $10. Email harvesting sites also tend to look like a survey site but you will spend 2 hours signing up and NEVER get a survey, you will however get a TON of spam. HTH!

Quick and easy GPT's are in my signature. No signing up for offers or using credit cards.

These, along with what others have suggested are free to join. DO NOT pay to join surveys or GPT's.

I also have a GPT info posted on my blog in case you want the details before jumping in.

Looks like you got some great advice. And again, don't ever pay a fee for this.
