I'm curious about Virtual Assistants. What kind of duties do you perform? Do you ever meet your employer in person?

Are the jobs available just one-project deals or can you really find full time work as a VA?

Do you start out making decent money?

Virtual assistants can do any task such as forum poster, link builder, blog commenting, SEO, article wrting, appointment setter, emailing clients. Mostly on helping promoting a business but is not limited to that.

I am a Virtual Assistant and some of my clients are short term per project and some are long term "retainer" clients. They pay me monthly. I do administrative work for all of my clients, but since I have skills in Internet Marketing, Article Marketing, SEO, writing, etc.. I do these things as well.

A virtual assistant by definition is an administrative person, but there are various niches that you can get involved with. It all depends on your skill level and your experience.

I am also a VA. Most of my clients are in Real Estate. I market their listings, make warm calls and databse work.

I'm more of an online business manager in that the tasks I do are things like managing other contractors, overseeing projects, helping develop new products, helping clients with outline goals & steps to reach them, etc. I also do some of the asks the other girls mentioned, it just depends on the client.

I've never met any of my clients in person. Most communication is done by email but I have a couple clients who like to touch base by phone occasionally.

There are tasks like customer support, overseeing other contractors, etc that you may handle on a daily basis but many tasks that a VA does will be single projects.

I think for the most part, your income will be based on your experience, what tasks you offer, how you market yourself, who you market to, etc. There are so many different factors that come into play, it's hard to say how much you could make just starting out.

My personal experience is that I started out with the idea that it was more of a hobby than a business. I didn't do any of the things that I should have done to build a solid foundation. That kept me from earning a decent living and my income fluctuated drastically from month to month. However, once I regrouped and started doing things the right way, my business quickly grew. I now work full-time plus outsource some of the work to my team of subcontractors.

No matter what kind of business you have, it's going to take hard work & dedication to make it successful. Typically speaking, it takes 2-3 years for any business to really start seeing stability and a decent income. That being said, I know some VAs who hit the ground running and within a couple months they had a full schedule and haven't looked back since.
