I've been unemployed since March of last year and have been applying for jobs (even telecommuting positions) while taking Community College classes to upgrade my skills. So far I have not had much success with the job market and am considering pursuing a different direction. I'm researching the different home business forums to determine the best path I should take. Are you presently earning a full-time income with Barefoot Books? Are you supporting your family with it? Since I have limited resources, I don't want to waste my time or resources on a business that I cannot support my family with. So I'd appreciate your honest, realistic answers to my questions. Thank you in advance for your replies.

I am running my Barefoot business very part time as I am raising my son. I would not expect a full time income immediately, but with hard work put in to making connections and booking events throughout the year and growing a strong team, substantial income could certainly be made. I am definitely making money each month and contributing to the bill paying in our household. I also make money tutoring students after school, though currently this business has slowed due to the economy. I am finding that the fundraising part of my Barefoot business is growing. Hope this helps in your decision making.
Cheers,
Dena

Below is a great blog I just read today that really sums it up.
I have been with my current company for 7 years and I have built a business that brings monthly income to our family. The key is to love what you do. Find something you really feel good about. When I was researching companies I had to feel good about what I was selling and I love that about what I chose to do.
Also another thing to look at is the marketing channels of the company you choose. I really looked at that too. Those are some ideas I hope help you in your search.
Good luck to you
Maria

There may be a number of misconceptions that you or your family have when considering working from home. Most of these misconceptions are a result of unscrupulous marketers, trying to make a swift fortune at your expense. The reality of an at home business is that you are not going to get rich quick. Especially if you plan on doing no work.

“Make a full time wage in an hour a day!”, or “I made my first million inside of six months!”. These are the kinds of outlandish claims that may draw in some people to work at home scams, costing them money that they cannot afford to lose. What is worse, they lead people to believe that working from home is some kind of get rich quick scheme that requires little to no effort. That couldn’t be further from the truth.

The great thing about starting a direct sales business is that there is, in most cases, a very low start up cost and you have an upline sponsor that is there to help coach, motivate and guide you through the early stages.

Please understand that direct sales does take time, energy and a passion for your business. If you have these three things plus the understanding that your business will take up some of your time you are well on your way to becoming a very successful direct sales business owner.

It depends on what you are selling. If you have a recession proof type of product or a product that people NEED more than want; you probably will not see much of a difference no matter what happens with the economy.

Syvella,

What sort of products do you consider "recession proof"?

It's a buzz-word I'm hearing a lot, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on what it means.

Thanks in advance!
